Strange/unexpected Moz references?

Browsing through my regular comic shop yesterday, I picked up a copy of Tank Girl vol. 3, the latest in a series of books that's reprinting all of the original series in chronological order. Much to my surprise, there was a story in their titled "Whatever Happened to The Smiths?" I didn't have time to read it, but it appears to be a beautifully-illustrated short story telling the "truth" about what happened after The Smiths broke up.

I wasn't able to find a scan online, but here's the review from The Independent, which briefly mentions the story about The Smiths:

"Tank Girl lives in a post-apocalyptic hell of ultraviolence, junk food and porn, but it's good to see her creators Jamie Hewlett and Alan Martin paying their respects to such key cultural figures as John Peel, Ken Hom and Buzzcocks in Tank Girl 3 (Penguin pounds 9.99). Yet again TG hits the road with her companion Booga, the mutant kangaroo. Together they blow away a convention of bounty hunters, go on a quest for "culinary enlightenment" and defenestrate Ken Dodd. Sub Girl dies a poignant death ("I'm fading fast, Tank Girl, the world's slipping away from me ... this is it, I'm actually dying") and we take in a small digression to find out "Whatever happened to the Smiths". The crazy, inventive graphics which have made TG a fashion icon are paired with the most hazy, approximate spellings and playground obscenities. Reprehensible stuff, but undeniably funny."

Read a nice review in Elle magazine about a new book called "Not that Kind of Girl - A Memoir" by Carlene Bauer, where the author tells the tale of being lured from her suburban Jersey hometown to the temptations of New York City "with the Smiths blaring on her mental soundtrack."

No, I'm not Carlene Bauer, but I was once her.
 
On Sunday afternoon on VH1 Classic, there was a program on about British indie bands from the 80's up until the present. They spent a good deal of time talking about the Smiths. They showed parts of (what seemed to be rather recent) interviews with Marr, Joyce, and Rourke. And shockingly said that Morrissey and Marr were the most inportant song writing duo of the decade. Not too shabby. Did anyone else catch it? I don't know the name of the show. If someone alread posted this, sorry.

That's "The Seven Ages of Rock," which VH1 Classic reruns quite frequently. I think it's pretty awesome that so much time is spent on The Smiths (almost the first half of the show). Then the rest is mostly about Oasis....

Walking around Sainsbury's in Upton on the Wirral today during my lunch break, I saw a women wearing a 'All you need is Morrissey' t-shirt browsing the bread section. I'm not sure whether this constitutes either strange or unexpected though :)
 
I'm not sure if this was posted in here, but I don't think it has been.

I read this very peculiar web comic called 'Lucid TV' and I always thought maybe the artist behind the comic was a fan of Morrissey because a few of his characters kind of look like him. Then I discovered he drew up the artwork for a mini-comic that a friend of his wrote called 'There Is A Light' and the cover is a thinly veiled reference to the cover art for 'We hate it when...' and he's recently put it online to read and it's a very, very amusing comic about Morrissey. I think I may have to print it and put it on my wall.

I love it when he says, "I sang about Ouija boards for God's sake, is this really so strange?" Also...the last panel. :lbf:

Morrissey was name checked a few times on "Something For The Weekend" this morning, as one of the guest was Preston out of The Ordinary Boys.
Tim Lovejoy told him he had a Morrissey look going( he was sporting a quiff and black rimmed glasses) later on when Preston ate some meat, Tim said...'Morrissey won't be very happy, meat and murder and all that.'
 
I do recall a series on NBc network called Singing Bee where one ofthe contestants told host, Joey Fatone, his musical influences included 311, Depeche Mode, and Morrissey. The host reply was "Wow, that's a pretty interesting mix." I wasn't floored by the reference but found it to be refreshing nonetheless.
 
My daughter loves hush puppies, so we tend to stop at seafood restaurants so she can get some when we see them. A month or so ago she came home with some and she excitedly told me that they were playing a song off of YOR (I don't know which one.) in the restaurant, which was some divey little crab shack. Weird. But then a week ago she and I stopped off at another seafood restaurant to get a menu to add to our menu collection and we were just about to pull out of the parking lot when we heard Morrissey singing Everyday Is Like Sunday. They played their sound system loudly at this restaurant, so it was like he was being broadcast via bullhorn. Strange feeling.

This would horrify Morrissey.
