I agree. I was just telling a friend that viewing the frink is a lot like pure porn for me, seeing bare chest and writhing gifs. But the Morrissey I've always been attracted to was the smart one who observes the world then comments on it through song. I'm indulging my lusty side coming here, but in my brain he's the guy on the couch who wants to take a nap then maybe wake up and take a walk in the fresh air.

I think it means "I couldn't know the joy of marriage and artistic joy at the same time. One of the two must be sacrificed." I'm sure the second sentence is right, but I'm not 100% about the first.
Hopefully that's all I have to know to pass my French qualification exams in a few weeks.

Oh and Fate has intervened in my life once again. I stupidly assumed the quote would be about books, not, well, the reflection of something quite personal....

Yes, I'm quite good at French, although I know Morrissey can't- or at least couldn't- speak it.
I also speak a little German and can say "the centurion took off his tunic. Look!" in Latin, as well as other tidbits of Russian, Spanish and Italian.
French isn't that different from Spanish from what I'm aware. My French teacher is always making parallels between the two languages.
Tehe, can I go to this school where Morrissey hangs around the gate? It seems like fun.
