The Smiths added to Trump rally music (January 23, 2024)

Not sure if this is a joke: tweet says Trump added Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want to his pre-rally music in Laconia, New Hampshire.

"Pleaes, Please, Please let me get what I want next time!"

Some enterprising nü-metal band should do a thrash/rap cover version of Please Please Please, and the Trump campaign could use that at rallies. It would get the Kid Rock contingent moving and grooving more than the original, and the Smiths would have no claim to force them to desist.

I'm sure someone is bombarding SER's inbox with pro-Trump videos that pretend to be about free speech/saving badgers from the jab/whatever.
You should tag him on Twitter again, trying to forward your own agenda. Go for Donnie, too. I’m sure they love your little communiqué.

That's the thing about Trump. Completely loathsome individual, but highly amusing and entertaining. I think that's an underestimated reason for his support. Nikki Haley tried to dissuade Republican voters by warning, "chaos follows him." Then last night there was some New Hampshire voter being interviewed for an exit poll, and he said he voted for Trump, and when they asked him why, he said, "chaos follows him!" The American political establishment is so appallingly bad, Trumpian disorder and comedy is a great tonic.
trump is a classic case of the more the media hate you then certain sections of the public will like you even more.

I’m going to guess he won’t respond with a Central post, simply because he knows it’s expected of him. Then again, as I said in post above, he might think it good publicity.
Not expecting anything on Central anymore either, but it is hard to imagine that he will perform « America is not the world » at the upcoming z shows without any banter or lyrical changes. I am also very curious as to what backdrop he will use for that song.

Pictures of the Trump sons on their infamous hunting safari, maybe. We know he hates those two. I suspect the line "have you seen the sad rich hunting down elephants and lions" was referring to them.

This band of camp, vegetarian book worms and pop nerds is the least Trump-y band in history. He’s more of a Kid Rock kind of guy.
The Smiths being for a band for camp, vegetarian bookworms is a myth. Those pop nerds have exorcised their Morrissey demons via ebay and have moved on. If Morrissey could let go of his TDS he'd know he and Trump have way more in common than he realises. Free speech alone is a bus they could both sit on.

Personally if I were Trump I'd choose How Soon is Now. And yes Bigmouth Strikes Again would be too obvious ;)

It's not a myth.

And the damage the 'alt-right' are doing to his public image by lying to his relatives now, won't last.

Please go back and reread what you typed. Very slowly if need be.

I was at Morrissey's first show after the 2016 election, November 9 if I recall. Grand Sierra casino, Reno. He opened with "Trump-shifters of the World Unite." Said, "We're screwed, we're screwed, we're screwed," many times during the show in his staccato way.

I don't think Moz is MAGA. Right-wing on some topics, not all. There's still room for nuance in our minds, if not the media.

On stage Sunday, Morrissey, who has a devoted Hispanic following, begged thousands of fans not to elect Donald Trump. Morrissey tells The Daily Beast he’s skeptical of a future where The Donald is running the White House. “Can you imagine the international stage announcing the arrival of President Trump? On the basis of his name alone he can’t be allowed to represent America,” he said.
Have you heard that Russia had a hand in the first Trump election? Just because there wasn't a global catastrophe in the 4-5 years he was a Kremlin puppet, doesn't make him a pacifist. How honourable! Trump liked to instigate a bloody civil war and not stop the march on the Capitol. You've forgotten that already?
We hear lots of things that are later disproven. For example, it emerged Facebook was persuaded to alter information on its platform for the election - https://nypost.com/2022/08/26/zuckerberg-blames-fbi-for-censoring-the-posts-hunter-biden-scoop/
While you're waiting - here's Morrissey in an Obama t-shirt.

...blasting Obama’s “whiteness” over his handling of America’s ongoing police brutality crisis.“Obama, is he white inside? That’s a very logical question—but I think he probably is,” Morrissey pondered aloud last week to a smitten Larry King...
from that 2015 interview above ⬆️ ⬇️
Morrissey’s only objection to Obama is that he didn't support Black Lives Matter enough.

I could see him have some love for RFK Jr, though.
Or Cornell West?

Where are all these terrible relatives? Is repetition of these innuendos helpful?

Here's some more media coverage.

The Guardian eventually takes the hypocritical moral high-ground - https://www.theguardian.com/music/2...s-songs-playing-at-donald-trump-rally-rallies

(Not surprising after the way they backstabbed Assange. Marr better watch out! )

Interestingly, Rolling Stone add a very similarly-worded put-down of Morrissey to what the Guardian used - https://www.rollingstone.com/music/...onald-trump-the-smiths-song-rally-1234953068/

As if the narrative is being collaboratively orchestrated behind the scenes? Or maybe they're owned by the same group?

Hope those heading to shows are getting excited! Have fun! :guitar:

On twitter, and they're not terrible - they trusted the wrong people at a stressful time.

Online articles are churnalism - they copy each other, sometimes adding a spin from their previous coverage.

Never made that connection myself, but now that you say it, it sounds so plausible. Good point.
