Better than Marr
Perfect musically, lyrically, in every way. Very clever and funny lyrics, and a very interesting sound and style to this song, it's so unique and has very clever arrangements. Even the subtlest things to the composition I find perfect. I especially like the "don't say you'll hold it steady" verse that as I recall they always skipped live (except on that radio session). Definitely one of my absolute top favorites.

Are you taking the piss? This song is embarrassing in it's pub-singalong mediocrity.

That's really laughable, for IMHO it's among five worst songs.
If I should ever call a song cringe-worthy, then this is the one.
Skip-worthy by all means too.

Maybe to you it is, but I love it. :D Since I'm not taking the piss I wouldn't know if it is a pub-singalong, in fact I'm a teetotaler.

Can someone explain to me just how this song could be construed as "clever", beyond the painfully obvious play-on-words of the song title? Am I missing the brilliance of "We've never seen a keener window-cleaner"?

I cannot help thinking that Trouble Loves Me would've made a better choice of single than this self-consciously knockabout tosh.

His absolute nadir of 'Carry On' humour. 3.

His second worse single. It's bad but nowhere near as awful as Dagenham Dave.
The heartbreaking thing is that Moz was getting loads of radio support back in 97. Would you believe that Radio 1 put Roy's Keen on their A list?!
He had great songs around this time like Trouble Loves Me and Lost but he chose to put out rubbish like this.
The biggest tragedy of the Morrissey solo career is that Morrissey alone chooses the singles. At least with the Smiths, he and Marr would discuss the decision with Marr contributing the much-needed second opinion. This meant that, with very few exceptions, the Smiths' singles were absolutely flipping brilliant...

Comtesse

Starved Of Mirth
This is one of my Mozzer guilty pleasures. Sure, it's silly and lightweight and frivolous, but it's so much fun! Wish he'd do this one live again. I give it an 8.

I LOVE IT!!!

It's one of my guilty pleasures along with:

King Leer
Dagenham Dave
Pregnant For The Last Time
Oh Phoney!
Golden Lights
Work Is A Four Letter Word
Pashernate Love

snapyou

Humdee,dumdee,homocide
One of the songs that led to my disenchantment of Morrissey

Poor poor poor "the ladder's a planet" ???!!!

Though ,having said that,i do like it when Football Focus play it to accompany that rather intimidating Irishman

Corrissey

lovable loser
It is kinda corny but very catchy. I love those 4 silly words...Back Up The Ladder...and I don't know why =o) 'sides, have you ever heard the word 'chamois' in another song!?

The stage is a planet, Moz is a star and I am a satellite, but that's alright.

Not Dead Yet
Weakest single...without a doubt...

Would have been better if the song was about Roy Keane

Yes! Comtesse, you said it perfectly. I seriously love this song. All songs don't have to have deep meaningful lyrics. It is in my top three after Maudlin Street and Jack the Ripper.

The name of the song is a play on his name. I guess when he sang it live he used to say "keener midfielder"

Forever Ill
a 6

2nd single from MALADJUSTED, it can't compete with Alma Matters, it's
an upbeat song, where they [producers, song writer] wanted to play
save...and they did, it's that mediocre that there's nothing to say about
it.

I never liked it much, and skip it lots

next!

nugz

SUPAHSTAR!
better than papa jack. thats not saying much. i skip through half of maladjusted. i usually only make it through half this song. i say.....4.

mozmal

Beastly Little Parasite
It's by no means great, but I do like it. It is one of the better songs on the very dull 'Maladjusted. 6.
