Bored, can you explain how the length of a ban is decided? Is it solely on the magnitude of the specific offense, or is there a progression of penalties?

For example, I've been a model Solower for months now, but if I slip up will my past record (most of which should be expunged, IMO) cause me to have a long-term ban? Or can I count on a mere 3 dayer? Or just probation?
