VH2's influence on morrissey's popularity

i discovered morrissey in that period around april last year when VH2 seemed to play nothing but moz/smiths. wondering if this is how others found him?

VH2 was where I first saw a Smiths video in about 2003/4, which prompted me to buy my first Smiths album. Its a shame the channel isn't on anymore as it was the only one which ever played Smiths/moz.
