My Favorite Morrissey Line...

I've always been fond of:

Small girl runs crying through the park
So freely her daddy berates her
Right now, so for the rest of her life
She is convinced that her daddy hates her

It just has such a nice ring to it.

As far as my favorite lyric where sentiment is concerned, there are too many to contemplate, but my favorite recent one is, "Living longer than I had intended/Something must have gone right". Indeed!

"Older, wiser never applies to me". Nice to know someone else feels the same way I do.

Which brings to mind another classic: "Does anybody feel the way I do? And is evil just something you are, or something you do?"

"I know you love one person so why cant you love two?"

I dont know if it the phrasing of the song performed but this line never came together for me until I was listening to the bootleg of Hammersmith 1991(?). It absolutely kills me.

Thats a good one. I loved that line for soooooo long. My sig is my current fave, but as with everything to do with Moz, I always find it hard to chose. I love "a lopsided grin" 'coz it reminds me of my son.

"4 A.M. Northside, Clapham Common / Oh, god, what was she doing there?" is actually my all time favourite.
Thats just a great song from start to finish, from a great album.

" Your poor witness
Crying so loudly on the floor
Oh, well, she's only trying to tell you
What it was that she saw
She is only trying to tell you
What it was that she saw
Now see her standing on the table
With her small arms flailing
And you feel such compassion
In your soul for
Your mute witness
Still testing the strength
Of our patience

Oh, well she's only trying to tell you
What it was that she saw
She is only trying to tell you
What it was that she saw

Now see her pointing to the frisbee
With a memory so fuzzy
And her silent words
Describing the sight of last night
4 A.M. Northside, Clapham Common
Oh, god, what was she doing there ?
Will she sketch the answer later ?
Well, I will ask her

"Now dry your tears, my dear"
Now see her mime in time so nicely
It would all have been so clear
If only she had never volunteered
"Your taxi is here, my dear"

La, la, la-la..."

The abrupt ending is masterful in itself.

The Smiths:
"Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head"

Solo:
"And we just can't stress,
Oh, how more [of] a mess
And complete distress,
Won't make much difference to us"
[w/ celebratory delivery]

"Sleep transports sadness
To some other mid-brain"

"And looking back
We will forgive
(We had no choice
We always did)" ...

* * *

At the moment:
"And I've never felt quite so alone
As I do right now..."

Talk about a thread that could go on infinitely!

Off the new record, I really like "Dear God when will I be / where I should be?" (On the Streets I Ran) and "The future is ended by a long, long sleep" (In The Future When All's Well)

All time, I like "You want to turn it on its head / by staying in bed / I said 'I know I do'" (He Knows I'd Love to See Him) and many, may others.

Young And Alive said:
"So you go and you stand on your own, and you leave on your own, and you go home and you cry and you want to die."
That's my favourite too! The whole song basically.
So true, so true...

And "Young girl, one day we really will be old" always stands out to me for some reason

"What she asked of me at the end of the day... Caligula would have blushed"

"And he stole from the rich and the poor and the not-very-rich and the very poor and he stole all hearts away"

"We(?) are the richest of the poor"... could anyone tell me the song this is from? I know as soon as I hear the melody with the words but there are 300 Morrissey-songs in my library and I wanna go outside, I don't want to stay.

"where are we going?
we're all going mad!"

From The Smiths on Charlie's Bus - 1984.

I think you mean "A double bed and a stalwart lover for sure / These are the riches of the poor" from I Want The One I Can't Have. Yes?

I always thought this line was heavily influenced by Nico and that final line from ‘These days’: Please don't confront me with my failures,I had not forgotten them.

Definitely. I thought the same thing when I heard it.

Iam now a central part of your minds landscape whether you care or do not

yup, that is one of my favorites as well along with:

"boot the grime of this world in the crotch, dear"

"I know it's over
And it never really began
But in my heart it was so real"

"Yes, you're older now, and you're a clever swine
But they were the only ones who ever stood by you"

"Now I've had enough
I've had more than could be
My rightful share
Of nights I can't bear
How can it be fair ?"

I could go on forever..

There are too many favorites. Surely, I have a favorite for each song. It all depends on which song I am listening to.

Right now:

"Today I am remembering the time
When they pulled me back
And held me down
And looked me in the eyes and said
You just haven't earned it yet, baby"
