No competition, I have to say. The Smiths are untouchable. You have to be honest and admit that Morrissey's solo career is a bit hit and miss, although there have been some great moments. The Smiths came from nowhere and exploded just when the music scene so badly needed them, they were around for just a short time and then split, leaving a massive legacy behind them - forever!
Also, Johnny Marr's melodies have not been consistently matched - it really was the perfect union. I'm just so glad that I was there to see it happen. It's one of the few advantages of being an old git like me.
