PETA UK (via Gloucestershire Live): "Morrissey writes to TUI demanding they stop selling trips to parks" (May 1, 2024)

He wrote: "TUI now has the dubious distinction of being the last major travel provider in the UK to provide a financial lifeline to these watery little hellholes. Contrary to your company tagline, the animals imprisoned at marine parks do not Live Happy.
"Anyone with a thinking bone in their body – or a drop of compassion – knows that not only does captivity kill the spirit of these imprisoned, intelligent, social beings, it often kills them."

He concludes his letter by asking: “Please will you find it in your heart – or realise that your business is tainted by these venues – and stop supporting these magnificent sea animals’ suffering?”

The full statement tends to surface eventually if there is one (edit: see above).

signs you embody a peculiarly american form of ignorance:
1. you go to aquariums, which are both unethical and a very dated form of 'entertainment' (honestly i didnt think there were any left outside of maybe asia. the aquarium in my city was done away with decades ago)
2. you see sea creatures and think you know how to interpret their happiness level by sight and that because they 'seem' happy they must be
3. you think having seen them for a short visit makes you a world expert on the topic

There is an aquarium in London.

Dear Mr. Morrissey,

The good people at Moz-Solo tell me that you are still selling tickets to concerts that you have no intention of fulfilling.

Like both wild and domesticated lemmings, some of your fans are held captive in airports, train stations and hotels, against their will, for the amusement of millionaire singers; thinking that you’ll show up.

Please, stop. These concertary hellholes can never come close to replicating the complex needs of mindless fanbase. Mozites belong in the open streets, where they can find food, socialise, and explore – all of which is impossible for them to do in a cramped, concrete amphitheatres.

The unnatural conditions take a toll on the poor animals, and the recent spate of premature balding proves that following you robs them of both their freedom and their capacity for independent thought.

The situation is just as bleak for the group of old fans who are crammed together upstairs at the Star & Garter that’s smaller than the car park. Day in and day out, these old timers can do little else but flail in endless circles.

They’re even forced to perform demeaning karaoke in exchange for beer. Anyone who thinks that’s entertainment needs to get their head checked. And anyone who profits from this abuse (you) should be ashamed.

It’s never too late to do the right thing. Be on the right side of history and cut ties with Annie-body that buys your tickets. (You’ve stopped pronouncing anybody that way now haven’t you, as if it was a non-authentic affectation to begin with.)

I’ll be appearing on a zoom call soon as part of my working day and welcome the opportunity to meet with you to discuss this issue – or, better yet, I hope I can tell my audience that Morrissey is no longer associated with concert cancellations, far right wing ideology or treating fans like faecal matter.

Sincerely,

That’s Enough For Me

N0pe, it's too fanatical, but if my comment doesn't apply to you, I don't know why you are responding with the royal we.

Morrissey is a petty bastard, and just like any narcissist, he has to keep up the facade. He compared slaughtered children to chicken nuggets, that tells me all I need to know about Morrissey's compassion for any living thing.

I don't think you understand what the royal we is.

I agree that Morrissey says a lot of silly things, and I'm sure a lot of other people do as well. If anything, there's more criticism of Morrissey on this website than there is support, and rightly so in many cases - I have criticised Morrissey a lot over the years. Therefore, I'm, unsure why you're accusing whole swathes of people of blindly worshipping Morrissey. Again, we just happen to agree with him on this because animal welfare is a very important moral and ethical issue to us.

I'm not going to comment on whether Morrissey is a narcissist or not, as that is a complex psychological condition which can only be diagnosed by appropriately qualified professionals, not randoms on the internet.

Your criticism of Morrissey as being a virtue signaller, when he has quite literally been speaking about animal rights and welfare since at least 1985, and has been attaching his name to PETA letters for over 20 years, is absolutely silly, frankly. If anything, your protestation that you're not one of the worshippers, while you seemingly spend every waking day here and are one of the site's most prolific posters, is a much better example of virtue signalling. For example, your account was only created on February 8 2022, and you have sent over 4,000 posts, while my account was created on 20 December 2008, with 1,171 messages, and you call others fanatical, while you post that much on a website dedicated to a man you hate with a burning passion.

For context, your posting history is equivalent to posting 4.9 messages a day, on a website dedicated to a man you don't like and accuse of virtue signalling for sending a letter to TUI. Famous when dead, someone who has been here since 7 December 2000, with 13,879 messages and one of the biggest diehard Morrissey fans on this site (if not THE biggest), has posted an average of 1.6 messages a day. But no, everyone else is the fanatic, not you!

I'd like to demand Peta to demand Morrissey release new music instead of whatever it is he *is* doing. When you consider that the last time Morrissey released any new music that got any attention was 2017 (California Son doesn't count, and IANADOAC's release at the beginning of Covid means it faded like a fart in the wind), you realize why he is f'd. The #1 reason Morrissey isn't relevant today is because it's been almost 7 years since he released new music that was promoted. It's also sad this coincides with his declining ability to tour (which has always gotten him through lean times) which is largely due to his not seeming to take care of himself, both physically [chips and cold coronas] and mentally [sorry Perth and Auckland]. If Morrissey doesn't release new music and tour, does he even still exist? Is he just back to being Steven now?
Please please please no more music from Morrissey. We've had enough.

i cant believe that i just read her say that she was there for a visit so she knows they're happy. that's definitely up there as one of the most retarded and juvenile things ive ever read on this site.
Agree to disagree. Those f***ing dolphins were extremely happy, there were no predators to give them a hard time like in the wild. For once, they could live in peace.

The dolphin called Fungie lived around Dingle Harbour for nearly 40 years and interacted intensely with people

When I visited relatives there, I usually went for a walk along the cliffs, kept my eyes peeled, and was generally rewarded by sights of him leaping in the water. People and animals can co-exist.

People and people can barely co-exist.

Did you accidentally trip on the Bon Jovi fansite and somehow ended up here? I always find it amusing how people who profess to dislike Morrissey keep cropping up to remind us of that. It's a curious affliction you have.

I am a fan of his previous work but his last several releases and the 2 non releases are just not up to his standards. I am perfectly content listening to his music pre-World Peace Is None Of Your Business.

:lbf: It would seem our neighbors to the north really like aquariums, this is a partial list. Morrissey should get on this.:lbf:

To most people, animals have no intrinsic value. They’re here to entertain us or for us to eat and wear and to make money off of. So of course aquariums and zoos will have top ratings on Google etc. Those who lack real empathy for animals will always find these places entertaining.

I don't think that's true that to "most people animals have no intrinsic value." I think most people adore animals and even prefer them to humans but that they (like me) suffer some sort of cognitive dissonance when it comes to their suffering.

Looking at the world, that does not seem to be the case. I think that’s very rare, in fact. But let’s hope it can become true and that the cognitive dissonance ends.

Good for M,
My man Barny from Saltdean, quite well known in M fan circles . Told me that when he worked for Peta UK, he was put off by the Los Angeles arm of the organization. He said he thought it was a Zionist pipeline and actually I did see Pam Andersons mates with Rabbi Shmuley.
Not fecking attacking M. That is how they operate though piggy back on a course
