It’s not about politics

I can’t say these things are surprising anymore. Nevertheless, it is worth keeping awfulness such as this in view for when/if we go to the ballot box, in Britain and/or Ireland. Especially as UK officials seem so ready to criticise other nations about animal welfare issues.

Although I'd also like it to, there really is absolutely zero chance of this happening. 10 years ago, yes - Morrissey hadn't started championing the far right and Marr's solo career was virtually non-existent, and he was floating around as an extra member of various not-very-good indie bands. But he's now done so well by himself (and Morrissey's lost so many fans) that his last album was a much bigger commercial and critical success than Morrissey's (in the UK at least) and his songs were even played more on the radio.
The politics of the far right are absolute anathema to someone like Marr, and to most people in the so-called 'indie' world and, arguably, most decent people, generally. Marr hates Farage, UKIP, For Britain etc. - not only does Morrissey not hate them, he's gone out of his way to endorse or defend them.
A reluctance to work with Morrissey these days is nothing to do with Marr's ego. He probably feels that Morrissey's views are now repugnant, and Marr would be tainted if he had anything to do with him.
Of course, we all know that Morrissey isn't a genuine and consistent far-right supporter - he's just completely muddled when it comes to politics. But his support/encouragement/defence of Farage, Waters, Robinson etc. just looks awful.

In Britain, we, some decades ago, came to a fairly straightforward accommodation and belief towards tolerance towards people who were of sexual minorities. But if you look now at all opinion surveys of the people who've come in most recently, they have very different views. A poll carried out a couple of years ago found that among U.K. Muslims there was zero belief that homosexuality was a permissible lifestyle choice. And a poll taken in 2018 in Britain found that 52 percent of British Muslims wanted being gay in the U.K. to be made illegal now.

There are people in the North of Ireland who won't bake your wedding cake if you're gay. There are some who won't marry you in their churches. But these are people who actually want to make it a crime punishable in law in the 21st century in Britain. So I'm afraid that everyone has to concede - liberal or conservative or whatever - that some of the people who the liberals and their attitude towards immigration have brought here have more illiberal attitudes than anyone else in the country. And this is a big problem.

A report by The Times on 5 January 2011, related to convictions for child sex grooming in the North and Midlands. Of the 56 offenders convicted since 1997 for crimes relating to on-street grooming of girls aged 11 to 16, three were white, 53 were Asian of which 50 were Muslim, and most were from the British Pakistani community.[26] Furthermore, The Times article alleged: "with the exception of one town there is scant evidence of work being undertaken in British Pakistani communities to confront the problem" of "pimping gangs" largely consisting of "members of the British Pakistani community".[26]

The findings have been questioned by researchers Ella Cockbain and Helen Brayley, from whose work for the UCL Jill Dando Institute of Security and Crime Science The Times report had drawn much of its evidence.[36] "The citations are correct but they have been taken out of context," Cockbain told The Independent; "Nor do they acknowledge the small sample size of the original research, which focused on just two large cases." Cockbain and Brayley expressed concern that "findings were being overextended from a small, geographically concentrated sample to characterise an entire crime type".

Police officers told the investigators repeatedly that they were ordered to not investigate the allegations because it would quote "Antagonise the Muslim community". Individuals officers told investigators they didn't follow up complaints as they were concerned they would be labelled 'Racist'

Usman Khan who carried out the stab attack at London Bridge on Friday, named by police as had previously been jailed for terrorism offences. Khan was even wearing a GPS police tag and was out of prison on licence when he launched his attack, in which a man and a woman were killed and three others were injured.

These are facts. Morrissey's views - expressed with a free mind outside of the liberal woke echo chamber - are not repugnant or racist. They are the opinions of an artist who has ALWAYS documented what he sees as the erosion and decline of the white working class community from which he comes.

For Britain is NOT a far right party. Unless the economic polices of a 1970's era Labour Party are far right. Unless the Defense policies of a 1970's Conservative Party are far right.

Thank God for people like Morrissey who express their opinion in the tradition of George Orwell.

"If the intellectual liberty which without a doubt has been one of the distinguishing marks of western civilisation means anything at all, it means that everyone shall have the right to say and to print what he believes to be the truth, provided only that it does not harm the rest of the community in some quite unmistakable way. Even more annoying than concern trolling is you STILL trying to hijack his name for your white nationalism.

His post is ridiculous.

And if Anne Marie is under the impression that she hasn't joined the far right or that the threat from Islam is somehow greater than the grisly bigots she's working with then she's even more ridiculous.

What parts specifically are ridiculous? The grooming case was horrific and the idea that it could have been stamped out earlier but that the police didn't want to be seen as 'racist' is appalling unfortunately.

Even moderate Islam has an issue with homosexuality that doesn't bode well with the modern secular West in the same way the Westboro Baptist church does. Only issue is Islam has far more members than Westboro Baptist church, LOL.

If diversity is to work these types of difficult conversations need to be had.

I think the West is probably f***ed anyways. We're too rich, too fat, too lazy and too greedy, we deserve everything that's coming our way.

It's a wild exaggeration.

How this is not THE biggest story in the world right now, I don't know. And I suspect it's only the tip of the iceberg.

I expect it’s not the biggest story because, shielded from the excesses of state control, a generation swapped the sanctity of privacy for opportunities to see pictures of themselves on a TV screen.

The lessons of history will have to be re-learned. With similar costs, unfortunately.

The 'grooming gangs' in England were prostitution rackets - until 2002 the girls were committing a criminal offence that the law had been turning a blind eye to - the failure to enforce the law had become entrenched in some areas partially for community relations, but also because the crime wasn't taken seriously.

Social attitudes change. Homosexuality was illegal in England & Wales until 1967, Scotland until 1980, Northern Ireland until 1982 and Ireland until 1993. Our liberal attitude is recent, and there's no reason to assume other religions can't adapt.

Crime is linked to poverty, masculinity, mental illness & addiction more than to faith or ethnic origin.

Yes - until they created a separate offense of paying for an underage 'sex worker' - it was soliciting or causing a public nuisance that got someone arrested.

The police still have discretion about when & if they enforce the law.

Islam doesn't come into it at all.

And if you were interested in campaigns around women, children & victims instead of racist shit-stirring - you'd know this.
