Re: Anyone off to see The Other Smiths in New Cross (London) tomorrow?

It was rather exciting, (since it was totally unexpected), to see "The Smiths" in large letters on the side of 'The Venue' as I passed by the other day. It was underneath "a tribute to".

Were they everything you'd hoped for Ruff, Bluenose, Covert Operation? aka the Stourbridge Massif

It was a little strange at first because when they come on stage, you don't know what level of raucous applause to give. It isn't as though they are the real Smiths, so at the end of the day, you're just cheering on 4 blokes from Stourbridge.

The first half of their set concentrated on the earlier stuff and half time saw a change of costume as The Queen Is Dead era is explored in the second half.

By this time, the crowd were going wild and storming the stage. The "Morrissey" did look a little...over-whelmed with the adoration.

I'd definitely recommend a viewing. As Ruffian said, the visual similarity isn't the most accurate, but if you don't mind that and you're up for sinking a few beers, having a dance and a sing-a-long, then it's worth the 8 quid (probably more dahn sarf)

According to that accurate and vital chronicle of music that is the Walsall Express and Star, they are set for America, so there's something for our friends from across the Atlantic to look forward to!

As good as The Sweet and Tender Hooligans?
Nah.

Only a Smiths tribute band could build up enough enthusiasm for people to start storming the stage haha. Have you ever seen The Beautiful Southmartins ? I once saw them play and they tried to do some recent TBS stuff which didn't go down too well, so it was quickly back to the HM material.

The venue near New Cross station.. On the one way system near Goldsmiths college. Grim and grimy part of town, it's a right rough as diamonds 3 story club.. but a good laugh. Top story is the indie 'disco'!

Not far from me.. but I had my fill of T'other Smiths in Stourbridge for the moment.

Go and see the Ark Royal moored in greenwich as well if you get up on Staurdya morning from the gutter..
