Is Quarry bad, or am I bad for thinking its bad???

I agree with you a bit about Malajusted- some tracks were not that hot, but others were. I think personally that Mozza has NEVER sounded better in his life- the songs are brilliant and fresh, and his voice sounds almost trained now. No more YOW!!! ( a jumped up country boy...) Of course, if you DON'T like Quarry, return it and get something to your own liking. But you are SO wrong about this, it's not even funny!!! YATQ is BRILLIANT, it has great tracks- the only one I dont care for is "All The Lazy Dykes" with that acid synth in the background. But the rest are f***ing marvelous, and if you can't *see* that, I don't know what to say. I feel really sorry for you. Because maybe you just haven't listened to YATQ enough for it to all sink in. Maybe you don't like his new sound, and songs about diverse subject matter,I don't know. His voice is so melodic now, and I feel bad for you that you can't recognize genius when it's right in front of you!

Yeah, exactly. That's why I prefaced my remarks with "You didn't ask me."

That kind of implies that I'm going to respond anyway. You're not slow on the uptake at all, are you?

And I really must compliment you on your maturity and way with words.

Okay....this is kind of what I mean...the first time I saw morrissey live, I noticed that everyone seemed very insecure and down right weird towards eachother

Eyes darting around like"what are you looking at?", as if everyone was saying "you think you are a bigger fan than me? HUH?"...I have rarely seen moz fans get on with one another.
This site is good example.

So what is with this?
Morrissey fans seem to be broken down into two distinct parts:

1)Those who simply like his music
2)Those who have an emotional/psycholigical investment in him as a kind of larger than life force.

As far as my taste in music, I don't buy records based on an abstract critera for coolness.
I hate radiohead, white stripes, strokes etc...
for me there is a certain kind of genre I like and I stick with that.
Morrissey
Bowie
k.bush
...
divine comedy
suede etc

by disclosing my taste in music I realise I am opening myself to ridicule, but
when I hear Neil Hannon(d.c) sing-rapping over trip hop beats, I say "this is crap" or Brett Anderson singing lines like "she live in a house and stupid as a mouse..???
why can't you do the same for Morrissey?

I really wish I was able to know more about some people when I read their evaluations on things. Hey, maybe I have no taste myself. Plenty of people think so. But at least there's a track record with me. Some of these new names coming on quoting one line from "Quarry" and then just saying: "It's embarassing!" Not even saying why. How do I know they have a clue about anything?

You don't, but neither do you know if half the people lauding Quarry have any taste either.

Perhaps we'll all unite in hating YOU.

Just kidding.

Etc? those three bands have nothing in common with each other. So your etc means nothing.

I kinda like all three of those bands. Not amongst my faves though. I haven't kept up on Radiohead the last couple years.

> for me there is a certain kind of genre I like and I stick with that.

Yes, just stick with the same teensy little genre forever. I'm not gonna ridicule what you like because I sorta like a few of those you list. But maybe you should expand your horizons a bit?

I do know they have taste...BECAUSE they like Quarry. = )

Actually, those bands do have something in common: they're all hugely overhyped critical darlings. (I actually like the White Stripes and am very good friends with a guy who I think could seriously be called their biggest fan. But even he admits they're overhyped.) Also, when the White Stripes and the Strokes first became famous, a lot of people lumped them together in the same new garage rock scene.

They might also like Britney Spears for all you know. I know of at least one formerly high profile Morrissey fan who allegedly kisses the Britney posters that plaster his walls.

So the "etc" meant that Truffle hates any band that is hyped?

What about the MUSIC?

I do think the White Stripes and Radiohead are a bit over-praised. I went thru a White Stripes phase after I saw them in concert and I think they're okay, but I really don't listen to them much. For a few weeks I thought they were righteous because they put on a great concert. But it didn't last. I don't play their CDs much.

The Strokes, however...there's just so much shit surrounding them on all sides.
Overhyped and over-condemned. At the end of the day, they do have some good songs. IMO.

Morrissey, as well, is an artist who has so much shit surrounding his every move. I wonder if it's hard for all of us, on all sides, to just put the record on and listen to the songs. They sound like good songs to me.

I'm going to have to flat-out disagree with you on the Strokes. (Bet you didn't see that coming.) When I heard their first single, I was like, Okay, I can get behind this...cool...retro. But then their next single came out and I was like, Wait, isn't this the same song?

So yeah, I don't think the Strokes have good songs. I think they have ONE good song. That they keep making over and over.

Some people are calling Franz Ferdinand the Scottish Strokes, but FF actually build upon what came before (and make songs I can actually tell apart) whereas the Strokes just live in the past.

Everyone has a right to a few guilty pleasures.

As long as they know they're guilty pleasures.

take it to the chat please, you can red each other all night

Nobody else wants to read your bullshit.

Re: Yeah, exactly. That's why I prefaced my remarks with "You didn't ask me."

I don't think this person does, but I guess you're right.

I still put on "Say You Will Be There" by the Spice Girls every now and again for nostalgia's sake. Take me back to eighth grade.

I like FF more than the Strokes. the Strokes aren't a special band to me, just likable

No wonder you hate Quarry! you're a Spice girls fan!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kidding.

Good night.
