After watching Carry on up the Khyber this weekend (a chilling indictment of the conflict in Afghanistan), I was struck by the similarity of a Morrissey on the brink of middle age and the late, great comedic actor, Peter Butterworth.

Morrissey and Butterworth sang together in a camp show, where the booing and the catcalls were so loud that they covered up the sounds of an escape tunnel being dug by other concert goers. Morrissey and Butterworth continued to be "Man and boy" friends in 1972-3 era. He sadly passed away in 1979 of a broken heart.
