LoafingOaf - All praise to Allah

The way I listen to Morrissey's music is generally to pick a CD and keep it in my car for a week or so, and then when I've overplayed it I rotate another one in. However, somehow some of the songs and albums still manage to get neglected for long periods of time. This week I finally decided to grab "The World of Morrissey" for my cruising entertainment, and I must say I had forgotten what a fantastic song "Boxers" is. I think I've played it 30 times this past week. I also don't think I fully appreciated the coolness that is "My Love Life." I've played that catchy delight about 20 times this week. An excellent driving song...as is "The Loop."

I don't really have anything to say. But there are Morrissey songs I've neglected to play for many months, and when I finally do get around to them I'm like, "Damn, that's better than I ever realized."

that usually happens to me with the compilations such as world of moz and my early burglary years. i won't listen to them for a while in favor of regular albums and i end up totally forgetting how brilliant b-sides like "nobody loves us" and "whatever happens, i love you" are. for once i agree with you! "the loop" and "my love life" are indeed fantastic songs (but i must say that i would consider "boxers" to be among my least favorite morrissey songs).

I love singing along to "Boxers."

I agree with you all. I think 'Boxers's is great, but it wasn't popular with critics, the public, and even the fans. I love it though. Love the lyrics. Love the music. Love the imagery.

The Loop ain't anything spectacular, but it's a nice piece of rockabilly, and there's nothing wrong with that.

My Love Life, is also fine, though I find the lyrics a tad on the cheesy side.

I hate Boxers. Driving Your Girlfriend Home is where it's at. Yo!

"Get off the Stage"

A buried, unique, and ever-relevant classic!

Actually.. it wasn't.

yes.. yes.. oh yes!

I can't get 'Sunny' out of my cd player at the moment.
No it's not stuck it's just that i can't stop playing it.What a top notch tune.
I've also been listening to bootlegs of the new songs and can't stop thinking how scandalous it is that he's still not signed.

Yeah, "Sunny" is a top track!!!

I've had the opposite experience , L.O.
I've been playing ONLY the 'world of morrissey' for ages. I just can't seem to budge it. Tremendous stuff.

Re: "Get off the Stage"

i like "sunny," but not as much as i used to. it used to be one of my absolute favorites, but ever since i watched oye esteban, it has brought back painful memories of the video.

Re: "Get off the Stage"

Ive never heard "get off the stage" but just watching Mick Jagger on HBO I have to agree with Morrissey.

oh God, what a TRAGIC song. Should neve have been released.

i disagree. i think the song is fair, not one of morrissey's best by any stretch of the imagination. but it's one of those songs that is clearly self-deprecating, but mocks others as well. there are certainly a lot of people who think morrissey should "get off the stage." (but we know where they can go, right?) i think it's very tongue in cheek.

it also comes in handy when drunks get onstage at SATH shows and overstay their welcome by like four songs.

Re: I presume that's some kind of joke, yes?

and King Leer always cracks me up.

what's so great about mocking people?

Re: "Get off the Stage"

> what's so great about mocking people?

jesus, people just like to give me a hard time i think. please do put words in my mouth! everyone says the song is making fun of mick jagger. if you have a problem with mocking mick jagger, i suggest you take it up with morrissey and not with me. i said the song was cool because he's not just making fun of other people. he's laughing at himself as well. besides, morrissey always mocks people. maybe you shouldn't be a fan if you have a problem with such things. have you ever actually read or listened to a morrissey interview? he can get pretty damn catty. it comes through in several of his songs as well (the most recent example being "the world is full of crashing bores").

now we have already established that you think i'm a snob, so why do you continue to read and comment on my posts (especially when you do it so badly)?

yes, i am being a bitch.
