a shocking sale...what appears to be a poor domain

I was browsing idly for something and came across these funny articles about the domain for true-to-you --the .com domain for true-to-you was bought up at a very steep price, meriting some mentions in domain name blogs:

http://www.domainingblog.com/2005/12/this-weeks-top-20-domain-name-sales_27.html
"The most shocking reported sale of the week would be True-To-You.com, which sold for £10,000 = $17,272 at Sedo. You are probably wondering why a slightly popular three-word phrase with two hyphens would bring such a figure. To better understand why what appears to be such a poor domain at first glance is actually quite valuable visit True-To-You.net and things should become a little bit clearer."

"The WhoIs information is privacy protected, but the domain appears to have been purchased by a motivated buyer, the owners of a popular Morrissey ezine and fan site at True-To-You.net. The .com now redirects to that .net."

In other news, it appears that the long-neglected domain name for morrisseytour.com has been available for sale since August 18th.

Dearly Departing
Who bought it? I'd hope that Julia wouldn't spend that kind of money. i'm fairly certain that the money didn't come from Morrissey himself (no reason other than he probably wouldn't spend more than $10 on a web domain).

maybe Warner Bros. bought it....?

I thought Julia would be able to afford it, but since the original sale is in pounds sterling, maybe Sanctuary or Morrissey's management bought it. Then again, whoever first registered true-to-you.net or cyber-squatted it could've just been based in the UK, and the buyer was not necessarily British. The domain broker, Sedo, appears to operate out of the UK and Europe.

My college doesn't cost that much.

I wouldn't be suprised if Julia bought it. I don't know her and don't know how much money she has, but it appears that she has plenty to spare.

this means it is time to register true-to-you dot org, and dot biz and then sell them to Julia and Moz for a tidy profit. I wonder if Mike Joyce was the owner?

edit, she owns dot org already... just checked

My guess is Julia owned it and sold it for that amount.

I recall seeing true-to-you.com was a porn site around the time true-to-you.net started. I'll bet it was Julia who bought the domain for that price. They all redirect to true-to-you.net.

It was a porn site earlier! Hilarious! But then isn't most of the Internet about porn. I can google seemingly the most innocent term and wind up with pages of porn sites.

Even when I google Morrissey-related things, I wind up with porn sites. Is it really so strange? Apparently there is a porn star named Lori Morrissey.
