Morrissey Central "NEW GUITARIST" (April 13, 2023)

He's not as far removed as some people would like to think. And the departure of a musician is certainly no different to what was happening during that era.

Morrissey Central "More Issey." & "AYLESBURY" - Aylesbury Waterside Theatre: July 23 concert (April 18, 2023)

Billy Liar (starring Tom Courtenay) was a huge influence on Morrissey's lyrics. For example, William It was Really Nothing, Vicar in a Tutu, The Queen is Dead etc.

Morrissey Central "NEW GUITARIST" (April 13, 2023)

Haha. I remember Boz running around onstage. I also remember many people viewing it as embarrassing, and Morrissey himself having to put a stop to it. You must remember that Morrissey sold out arenas BEFORE people had seen what the band were like. All those hundreds of thousands of fans bought...

Morrissey Central "NEW GUITARIST" (April 13, 2023)

Of course the energy was ten zillion times better than modern day Morrissey. He is 63 and none of us are getting any younger. :) That's the equivalent of criticizing Paul McCartney because fans no longer wet their knickers like during Beatlemania. The energy did not come from the band...

Morrissey Central "NEW GUITARIST" (April 13, 2023)

Nah. The 1991 tour showed that Morrissey could have gone on tour with any backing band and it would have been a success. People had been waiting years to see him live and those shows were all about Morrissey and the fans. The band got terrible reviews from all over the place (including from...

Morrissey Central "NEW GUITARIST" (April 13, 2023)

That's highly debateable and it's beside the point. Anyhow, the music for Low in High School was very well received. It was Morrissey's contribution that was seen as the issue.

Morrissey Central "NEW GUITARIST" (April 13, 2023)

Really? If you follow that logic, I guess Alain was also to blame for the relative failures of Southpaw Grammar and Maladjusted. It is way too simplistic to suggest that, 'Alain saved Morrissey's career' at any point. He co-wrote some fine songs, no question, but the success of the two albums...

Songs performed over the past 5 years

Well, to be fair to Morrissey he has gone back to play a fair few other songs from 1995 over the years. Reader Meet Author (most recently in 2016) The Boy Racer (2011) The Teachers are Afraid of the Pupils (2000) Best Friend on the Payroll (2009) Boxers (2015) Whatever Happens, I Love You...

Songs performed over the past 5 years

You're right that a tour like that would probably prove very popular. Morrissey has said in the past, though, that he doesn't like that sort of gimmick and thinks that each show should stand on its own merit.

Songs performed over the past 5 years

With some discussion about Morrissey performing the same songs too often, I had some time on my hands to check the stats. I may be wrong, but I calculate that he's sung 109 different songs since the start of 2018. Corrections welcome, but that seems fair enough for any performer and much...

    Strasbourg - Salle Erasme (March 13, 2023) post-show

As I said, Morrissey changes his set lists more than many of his contemporaries. I certainly didn't say that he changes them more than any of his contemporaries. The Cure comparison proves my point, anyhow. Since the start of last year The Cure have played 50 different songs across 46 shows...

    Strasbourg - Salle Erasme (March 13, 2023) post-show

Morrissey switches his set lists around a heck of a lot more than many of his contemporaries. Compare the number of different songs that he played last year with the number played by Duran Duran, Madness, Culture Club etc. As I mentioned above, there are 12 changes since the start of the 2022...

    Strasbourg - Salle Erasme (March 13, 2023) post-show

Just as an example of the way the set lists change, a quick check of the first show in 2022 shows 12 songs performed at tonight's gig that weren't played then. Seems fair enough to me.

    Strasbourg - Salle Erasme (March 13, 2023) post-show

Nah. Sweet and Tender Hooligan and Half a Person are not exactly obvious choices from The Smiths. And solo stuff like The Loop and Istanbul have also not exactly been regulars in the live shows. I'm not saying he doesn't have his favourites as well (any singer does), but Morrissey changes...

    Strasbourg - Salle Erasme (March 13, 2023) post-show

I'm not sure that people can complain too much about Morrissey not throwing curve balls into the set lists. In recent years he added the likes of At Amber, Have-a-go Merchant and Never Again Will I Be a Twin which are about as curvy as balls can be. :)

    Lyon - Amphithéâtre 3000 (March 12, 2023) post-show

I agree that a Vauxhall tour would go down well and that he'd be unlikely to do it (having previously expressed his dislike for any tours of that kind). I guess the flipside of that, though, is that he has performed well over half of the Vauxhall songs over the past few years. The shows in...

    Lyon - Amphithéâtre 3000 (March 12, 2023) post-show

I can completely understand anyone saying that. However, I am also realistic that Morrissey wants to play plenty of recent songs and that has always been the case (as one look at the tracklistings for Beethoven Was Deaf or Who Put the M in Manchester? testifies). I think of Morrissey's career...

They've performed the vast majority of Rank songs since Jesse joined the band.

    I can't see too many genuine reasons to complain about that set list, as there is a good mix of hits and misses. There's also a good spread of songs from most eras. The Smiths - 5 1988 - 2 1991 - 2 1992 - 1 1997 - 1 2004 - 1 2014 - 2 2017 - 1 2020 - 2 Bonfire - 1 Without Music - 2
