My mate Neal, curious with my bona-fide interest in all things Smiths and Mozzer, listened to Hatful of Hollow last night. (he is my house mate)
When I returned home (24 Hour Party People was on) he asked me if that was a compilation of their greatest hits or something, as it features This Charming Man, How Soon Is Now and Heaven Knows...
I replied that it was actually a compilation of sessions, B-sides and sporadic singles.
Flabbergasted he asked, "What thats like one album?"
"Kind of," I replied, "in fact How Soon Is Now had only been released as a B-side and that was on the 12" when Hatful Of Hollow came out."
"You what?" he replied. "Cos those songs are effing amazing and some of them were only released as B-sides."
I hasten to add we're both 30. Hatful of hollow was the first Smiths album I ever had. 1989. Bought it same day as I bought The Stone Roses LP with my paper round money.
And to think they used to mock me for liking The Smiths. HA HA HA
