Morrissey is now scheduled to go on at 10pm sharp as they've added someone else to the setlist.

Speaking of 10pm sharp, Red Lightning shall too go on at 10pm at the Copa bar.

Hey, you have alot of experience with the festivel(been reading your posts since 97) can you give me some advice on it?

Are the badges really worthwhile for networking purposes?

Best Hotel? (Is there a "W")

Should I rent a car.....some many questions I know....

depends on who you are and what you have!

i don't know what sort of "networking" you mean, so here it is...

my only brush with it is the one year i decided to register as an "artist" because i was looney enough not only to think i could write and perform songs, but that the festival people would leap to their feet with an epiphany after hearing my demo, which is truly the product of any 23 year old's disordered mind.

however, i do recommend trying to get a showcase even if you don't sing and don't want to pay the full $500. no, seriously, i just realized it a couple of weeks ago: if you apply, they give you a discount on the badge even if you aren't accepted. All you've gotta do is pay $10 and submit a "kit" that includes a CD or tape, and anyone can f*** around on a guitar and burn one of those on their computer at home. they obviously can't take your badge away because they don't think you're serious.

so, back to my story...
you can't personally go by me as i'm not really a people person or very cool or anything, and with those people, it's all about being cool and who they want to be seen talking with. i do remember that i was sitting around before Ray Davies was going to give a speech, and i somehow ended up talking to this woman next to me a little bit. I think she worked at a radio station. The moment i mentioned what i did, she suddenly clammed up because she obviously thought i was about to start begging for her help or thrusting my demos at her.

if you mean "networking" as in hanging out with celebrities, the celebrities who do come and speak generally seem to shuffle in and out as quickly as possible. for one, i can't imagine morrissey actually hanging around and listening to a discussion on web promotion. i did see Patti Smith walking down the street once, but she was obviously walking on the street and not hanging out at the convention. at the music venues one night, Geoff Travis dropped in and asked me the name of the band on stage. i had no clue.

Billy Bragg is supposed to give a interview on friday. i can honestly see him hanging out somewhere because that's the kind of guy he is.

> Best Hotel? (Is there a "W")

I think all your good hotel choices are gone at this point. I don't know what a "W" is.

i'm probably the wrong person to ask about hotels because, as i obviously live here, i don't stay at them.

> Should I rent a car.....some many questions I know....

you'll probably have to if you ever have any intention of leaving the downtown area, and considering all the hotels downtown are probably all full....you could take a taxi. the buses are only minorly useful. if you get a hotel on the interstate, the buses don't generally run along them.

Thanks for the Info, I will definately look into registering for a showcase, you didnt mention what kind of discount though....Does it go from 500 to 10 bucks, did I follow you...?

By Networking, I meant meeting industry folks, label reps etc As far as celebrities I could care less-

Guess, I will just play it by ear!

no! you only pay about $10 to register for a showcase, but the badge ends up costing about $300 thanks the artist discount, which gives you about a $200 discount.

it's too late to apply for a showcase this year. the cut off is usually back in october of november.

well, there are some of them out there. i can't identify them by sight, but yeah, they fly out for this thing.

A HUGE Whyte and Moz fan and not going? I question your loyalty to everything you say or post.

I would love to go...

with all of my heart..but we just spent our last bit of money on sending my husband back home to bury his father.
