What a career mistake brainiac made huh? He should just retire rather than admitting to play with them or put them on his resume?

Good Charlotte should be murdered

It's true........Hell, that's like admitting you used to play guitar for f***ing Jet or someone as equally as shitty.

Alanis Morrissette? are you f***in kidding me? even the mention of that no talent f***wit should be enough to ban him/her forever from posting here. If Mr. Tobias is hanging his head high about that? he may as well retire now. How on Earth did his PIMPship ever come in contact with such utter garbage?

Here's proof Tobias is a clod: Look what his "guitar work/writing" has done for her career? My dogs haaving sex with each other sound better than Alanis Morrissette. Good god! I wish I knew who posted that looked like? I would just stare at them for even mentioning such rubbish.

Alanis Morrissette? egads! Might as well say you played guitar for f***in Ashlee Simpson.

Make it stop!!!! Alanis Morrissette? You're shttin the PIMP right?

It's not like he didn't have other opportunities. What he did was turn down playing on "Ringleader of the Tormentors" the the next worldwide Morrissey tour to play in Good Charlotte, which is just asinine. If Good Charlotte was the best offer he had, that would be another matter. I hope he has fun hanging out with Hillary Duff. Ugh.

Spencer was a much better drummer anyway, IMHO.

I would never kid around with something that serious..he was in Morrissette's band for real!

Okay, obviously Alanis sucks. She makes me ill actually. But can you really blame him for taking the job? It was an opportunity to make some money playing guitar, and getting to travel the world doing so. I can't fault that. And by taking that opportunity, it led to better things on the artistic front.

I also assume that the Chili Peppers would not have considered a guitarist who didn't have the chops.

I also don't know that it's fair to judge a guy by how he treated you on one or two days, because who knows what was going on on his end. It would be a chore to always have to be Mr. Nice to the fans, IMHO.

But yeah... the jury's out till we hear the songs with Morrissey.

And isn't she an Indian's fan, being from Canton and all?!

I suppose it is wrong to judge on one's past endeavours. Obviously there are morrissette fans, or the band would have tanked sooner rather than later. Sometimes you just gotta do watcha gotta do to get where you want to go.

Honestly I hope he was having an off day..or I guess I should say days? I certainly dont expect him to be Mr. Nice, but I never expected Mr. Rude either. I just dont see how being an asshole to someone, especially a fan, can be a good thing. After all, it is the fans that make it possible for Tobias and any band to 'make it'.

That being said, Alain, and for that matter Boz's songs will always have my heart captured, not just for being talented musicans, but for being just really fantastic people as well.

WhyteGrrrl rambles on....

It's hard for me to be objective on this subject b/c it's well known around here that I am a big fan of Alain and I contribute to WhyteGrrrl's fanzine on a regular basis. However, I thought Jesse's lead work on the Let Me Kiss You B-sides was hack work and he destroyed any of the vitality in the solo of "Don't Make Fun of Daddy's Voice" (listen to any of the Wiltern or Apollo shows for Alain's more concise and melodic version)--which further hampered a really corking tune already diminished without Alain's better background vocals.

Honestly, I was always under the impression that Jesse was a fill-in for Alain and was never meant to be taken seriously as a viable replacement. So, there is a certain whiff of opportunism here--he certainly ingratiated himself with Morrissey, which seems especially vulgar if Alain was ill or dealing with personal problems at the time. It just comes off like an understudy who knew he had to get his foot in the door with the director before the actor he filled in for got back.

This is only semi-related to the topic at hand, but it rankled me that one of the listeners at the ROTT party made a comment that the band sounded less like sessions musicians this time around. Richly ironic, given that HALF of this band now truly are sessions musicians first (Jesse, Mike Farrell, and Matt Chamberlain) and a slap in the face to Alain, Boz, and Gary who have been musical partners off and on for the better part of 16 years.

Cheers,

Jamie

You're correct.

BINGO!!!!!! Looks Like Jamie's gained yet another fan in the PIMP? He/she's said it better than anyone else could possibly do.

Jamie is my top reporter and a helluva guy. He and I share many similar opinions, only he is better able to pervey his ideas into words!

Speaking of Spencer, did any of you happen to get your hands on the copy of the Elva Snow album he put out? It is fantastic and one of my best friends was lucky enough to do the cover art for the album!

Like he did here? I like that Jamie guy. Tell him the PIMP said "he cool, you dig?"

Re: Tell us what you know about Jesse Tobias

Can always count on well-written posts from you -- and I know over the years we've both expressed our strong support for Alain's and Boz' songwriting.

I can understand what you're saying about Jesse's opportunism (it was a little uncomfortable seeing him sitting in Alain's place when you opened up the IHFJ single), but it's important to note that Moz himself made it clear that Alain wasn't and hasn't been "replaced," and had kind words for Alain's songwriting ability (which I believe is the first time he's ever actual talked about their music). By all accounts so far (including M himself), Alain's music for "Life is a Pigsty" is a brilliant, massive song -- perhaps the centerpiece on the album.

not to mention that Jesse hasn't replaced Alain as a songwriter on the album. he seems to have taken over Boz's part for whatever reason.

Re: Tell us what you know about Jesse Tobias

I was interested in Morrissey's comment about Boz being more involved with this latest record than any previous, despite the fact that he has no songs on it (I assume there are Boz b-sides already in the can).

It's an interesting situation where you have Visconti as the guy giving the album its overall sound, the engineer (who Morrissey has praised more than once), Boz as a kind of floor director that keeps everyone going, and of course Morrissey himself, who has input into how songs are structured.

It would be great if someone made a "making of" video about this album.
