Help:Subway TIXs NY Q?

what about staying inn brooklyn-
manhattan hostels semms to have either rats cockroaches bed bugs, cleaniness or staff problems beneath other judging by tripadvisor reviews so i thought about choosing one hostel in brooklyn but t i heard that the train didnt go there 24 /7 esp weekdays so i asked somebody here from ny- also i wondered if the train even if it do look not so far away from manhattan on the map.-but the card could be misleading so how long will it take me to get to penn station from brooklyn (lafayeete street: half an hour/an hour:maybe the express trains do not run as much as in manhattan also so?and im worried about getting back weekdays on a late time of day-dont know about weekends also-but i guess wekends wil b better-
but brooklyn hostels didnt get so many bad reviews and so i wonder if i settle down here
suparni told me that:
dont know about 480 lafayette avenue in Brooklyn. I know that sometimes you do have to catch a train before a certain hour on weekdays or run the risk of having to pay bucks for a cab-

so i wonder if some óne who is familiar with brooklyn or live there could help me?
so anybody used to brooklyn? and the train times?

note to wink wink your link for that map link for insight view these maps do not help me at specific questions that I do have for example: i couldnt find any note about how long regular trains (when does the last train head towards brooklyn weekdays and weekends)so f i asked the people who actually live there why not? yes a map is helpful but for q like that its helpful to ask someone from ny
?

The trains run all night, including into Brooklyn...they just slow down a bit, so the later it gets the longer you may be waiting on the platform for a bit. As far as 480 Lafayette Ave is concerned, it is located off of the G train, which is the worst train in the system...meaning it is deathly slow and often doesn't run. You can check here:

http://www.mta.info/nyct/maps/submap.htm

There is a "Service Advisories" tab at the top which lists which trains are out of service at any given time. I would use www.hopstop.com to find the best route, then check it out at mta site.

Also 480 Lafayette is located in the Bed-Sty neighbourdhood in Brooklyn...which isn't great. It is the Harlem of Brooklyn. I feel safe there, but as a young tourist by yourself, it might not be a great idea to be wandering around late after the shows.

If I were you I would spend the extra money to be in Mahnattan...here is a link to "budget" hotels...none of which I have been in, but sound nice enough. It is broken into locations...Hammerstein is in the "Midtown/Chelsea" section and any other place you might want to visit (good food, record stores, etc.) would be in the "Below 14th St" section.

Good Luck!

This is where I am staying, $119/night (5% discount when I pay 'em in cash), 14 block straight-shot walk to the venue, safe area, and nothing about critters of any kind on Trip Advisor.

Anyone looking for a reasonably affordable place should check it out. It is on the above-linked guide for hotels-on-the-cheap.

well this is a different question and actually a good one. before all you needed was a mapping site to get directions...i don't know if you know but the link i sent you was gogle map, you have to click on the directions tab and punch in the starting address, and then the destination address and the site will write up directions and also show on a map the route. Maybe there are no German websites that do this for German cities?

As for trains...you are short walking distance to the C line (I think the A line is aslo there), your closest train to take you to manhattan. the area is ok for me, i would walk in it wheneve, and I have friends who live there, but it may scare you. the hotel is actually on the edge of Fort Greene and Bed-Sty.

trains run in brooklyn all the time. The G train is the only train in the entire subway system that does not go into manhattan. and i guess it is slow though i never mind waiting 45 minutes late late at night. but you won't be taking the G train into manhattan. also, you are not that far from the Atlantic Avenue subway terminal.

anyway, the important thing here is the fact there is no slow down in service simply for being in Brooklyn. if a train is running slow and you are in Brooklyn, well that means it was also running slow or will run slow in Manhattan.
hope this link work...

The Chelsea Lodge looks very nice...and is a quick walk to three of the best vegetarian spots in the city...

yes, the Chelsea Lodge is where i would stay. look at it, there is no reason to be scared of roaches and all that. People in manhattan see rats and roaches daily. it's normal. so you can read reviews written by tourists who freak out when they see a rat once they step out into the streets but it is normal. Roaches will be found once in awhile in basements and street level floors. try to get a room on upper floors if you are scared of them and rats.

also Chelsea Inn I would look into. you may get a special off season fare. it's cheaper than the lodge and in a good neighborhood. http://chelseainn.com/

You could say the same about any major city anywhere. In fact, NYC seems cleaner than some other places that I've been (*cough* London).

Hey there,

Not sure how long you'll be in NYC for, but check out this website. It allows people to rent out other people's apartments (sublets). I'm originally from NYC and moved a couple of years ago, but my upstairs neighbor used to use this service all the time. He'd leave for a few days and let tourists stay at his place. It's actually pretty cheap in some cases, and it's definitely not shady. I met most of the people who stayed at his place, and they were all really cool, normal tourists (actually, come to think of it, most were European). If you need any more help, ask. I read a couple of the other replies, and I imagine by now you are a bit confused. People who said Bed-Stuy isn't for you are right - as someone who doesn't know the city, you probably should avoid that area.

Here's the link: http://www.nyhabitat.com/

Click on "New York apartments and their pictures"
Then, click on "Vacation Rentals - Search"
The neighborhoods you want to look at are "Midtown West" and "Greenwich Village." Hammerstein is on the west side, and it's a lot easier (usually) to get there if you're already on the west side of the island already.

Good luck. :)
