I recently bought a dvd burner for my computer. Does anyone know if dvd burners for the pc are generally all region? If I can play PAL dvds on it I might go after some of the Moz dvds.

Or else how can I check? (computer illiterate here)

thanks!

thanks, just added it to my favorites.

"Region codes are a permanent part of the disc, they won't "unlock" after a period of time. Region codes don't apply to DVD-Audio, DVD-ROM, or recordable DVD"

Hooray!

but there was something I couldn't find:

is it possible to burn copyright protected dvds? I heard that you can burn those kind of cds by getting a thin marker and striping the original disc down the middle, can you do the same thing for a dvd?

Re: http://www.dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html#1.19

the program DVDshrink (www.dvdshrink.org) comes in handy at times like this - if I'm correctly interpretting what it is you want to do.

sorry - just remembered that the download link doesn't work on that site. try http://www.mrbass.org/dvdshrink/ instead

I "heard" that this program works also for removing the coy protection....wink wink

Now that I have tried both applications...

I find that I couldn't get dvd43 to work. I got the happy yellow face. It got evil. Then it turned green. I tried to burn from my HP application when the face was green (as it instructed), but got the same message.

I then tried dvd shrink. It seemed as though it was working by burning the disc to my harddrive, it took a while but I had all these options, it seemed really cool. But then I tried to burn it, but all I could burn was a data dvd disc.

Maybe I should get nero burning software (instead of my HP software)as it seems to be the most popular to use in conjunction with these programs. Maybe I should just read my instruction manual again. I tried the tutorials for the shrink, but couldn't get it. Might there be an application I can download on Limewire?

thanks

Re: Now that I have tried both applications...

These Ulead packages might be useful to you. If you download one from this site you get a 30 day fully functioning trial. It'll shrink a set of dvd files down so they'll fit a dvd - you can use it as a simple editing tool for any format video files - it'll convert dvd files to mpegs or avi or wmv - convert between PAL or NTSC. If you like it you can get a torrent of the full version if you're not bothered about legalities. Nero should be on the same sites but that will never let me edit or shrink the files the way Ulead does.

Re: Now that I have tried both applications...

I was going to get nero because i thought it might be easier to use in conjunction with the other stuff that was to de-copyright the material.

I'm using sonic now so I should probably just familiarize myself more with it.

thanks.
