Film coming soon about Factory Records

A film about the rise and demise of Manchester's Factory Records is currently in the making. Although the period of Factory Records and the Hacienda (did anyone of you lot ever go ?) was no doubt eventful, I think it's a stupid idea to make a film about it. Just like the rest of these types of films always are, they never work. Just look how crap and shoddy previous similar expolits have been, such as the ones about Sid Viscious and The Sex Pistols, and that one about Jim Morrison of The Doors, there are countless overs, a lot I've seen and they are all criminal. These sorts of things best work as an official documentary, did anyone catch the one about the life of Ian Dury, screened on BBC2, that was brilliant.

Anyway enough digressing, I have heard a rumour that Steve Coogan is to play Tony Wilson - that has to be a joke. I don't know what they have planned regarding Ian Curtis, no doubt it will be insulting all the same. What would you lot reckon to a similar film about The Smiths - wouldn't that just be shocking.

I went to the Hac in the late 80s.... great place ruined by gangs.

John Simm (the lead actor from the wonderful 'Human Traffic' and The Lakes') plays New Order's Barney apparently.

The idea is good, but it depends how good the film'll be. Films about famous clubs rarely work, though. Anyone seen '54'? Terrible.

Its called "24 Hour Party People" and i'd think it'd be made by now. It's been mentioned on the main page and there is a small part of the young Morrissey.
No I think it's a good idea. Just because other films of this kind were'nt so good it doesn't mean you have to stop trying. Even if it's a crap film it would still be interesting.

There is someone playing a young Morrissey as well.Morrissey is supposed to have turned up on the set to meet the young actor to put him straight on a few things.I think he was paranoid that he would be played as a geek or something.

Barney in this month's Face magazine

Barney says a few things about the film in an article in this month's Face magazine, the one with Planet of the Apes on the cover.

can you blame him. I'd want to write him a stiff letter, on cardboard - as the great kenneth said.
