N.B. the production of certain tracks, namely the one by Fred Thomas, are intentionally low-fi and muddied... nothing is wrong with the mp3's

I really liked bits of this.
I could do without a couple.
Thank you.

Where do you hear about most of these artists?
I only recognized Arab Strap and The Books.
And The Books only because of Momus.

I'll play this Sunday nights and think Codreanu.........Codreanu.....

> Where do you hear about most of these artists?

Online reviews: A routine glance through the daily reviews at significant sites such as PopMatters, Pitchfork, Splended Ezine, Dusted Reviews, Losing Today etc.

allmusic.com: most artist entries include listings of similar artists, followers, and influences; while an artist as paramount in influence and longevity as Morrissey would generate such broad results as to be of little value, the profile of a band such as, say, Low would contain more relevant suspects. An interesting resource all the same.

Also some sites such as Delusions of Adequacy and Leonard's Lair append a list of smiliar artists to their album reviews.

Labels: I absolutely adore the Pehr label and keep abreast of the lastest issues from Keep and BlueSanct as well as the Chairkickers label ran by members of Low. Many smaller indie labels, as the aforementioned, only stable artist within a marked style e.g. Leaf (fragile electronica), Projekt (ethereal goth)... hell, even some of the major labels like 4AD still nurture a distinct "sound".

Soulseek: I have friends, fellow Sadcore/Slowcore aficionados, some from different countries (Spain, Germany, S. America), with whom I regularly exchange information and downloads.

It goes without saying that my taste is very circumscribed, so I neither listen to the radio* nor channels like MTV for basically the same reason that one doesn't riffle through the print shop in the mall with something in mind after late Degas, Lucien Freud, or a GOOD abstract-expressionist (oxymoronic, I know) like Clifford Still... instead you will find Monet's water lilies, a Klimt, some motley-chrome convulsion by Pollack, and still more water lillies by Monet.

*NPR's Performance Today, which I tuned in religiously for a couple of years, doesn't count.
