When was Cilla Black ever in the Eurovision Song Contest? I think you probably mean Lulu. As for not being fond of the 'born again' Cliff, look at the recent picture of Morrissey with Tom Jones and Mel Gibson to see Morrissey wearing a cross chain, also the recent TTY post about Prince William mentions praying to God (and God spelled with a capital 'G'). I doubt that Morrissey has suddenly become devoutly religious (he would have an inability to accept anything in the Universe as being higher or more important than he himself is), but he's certainly less of a "lapsed Catholic" than he once was. Morrissey is becoming increasingly conservative in his old age (despite claiming at one point that he would not vote Conservative because he never has - but then again everybody lies). Think David Starkey, Peter Hitchens, Nigel Farage, Melanie Phillips, Mel Gibson - that's the 2014 Morrissey. He's in that group, a radical left-wing activist he is not. He won't invite Pussy Riot to perform with him (that is, if they were available), he'll invite Cliff Richard. Morrissey once stated that, and I paraphrase; "the most important trend for the future should be to preserve as much from the past as humanly possible", so don't be surprised, he has been going down this road for quite some time. The most important thing for Morrissey is to always be seen as a contrarian, to be doing the opposite of what is popular and mainstream; "to disagree with 3/4ths of the British public on all points is one of the first elements of sanity". So while Thatcher was in government he was reading the New Statesman, now in the face of multiculturalist thinking, racial/gender identity politics and rabid 'anti-fascist' groups, he's expressing an admiration for Farage and getting back in touch with his Catholic roots. That is the way of the man, always taking the opposite stance of the 'elite' and those who believe they know best. Long may he continue to do so.
Kind regards.
