A Covert Operation texted me with this one. Apparently the question was: "Which 1985 album featured the songs 'The Headmaster Ritual', 'Rusholme Ruffians' and 'I Want The One I Can't Have'?"

The snooty students didn't know the answer though. Probably too busy listening to Dido. Paxman responded to their ingnorance with
"It's bloody obvious. It's The Smiths"

Hurrah!

Well it wasn't, it was "Meat is Murder". So Jeremy's the ingnorant one, whether or not he went to Univeristy.

Good old Paxo!!!!
I only watch it to see him roll his eyes to the ceiling and/or sigh loudly at the alarming lack of REAL intelligence among these student twats.
There are millions (literally) of them getting great results from school exams and not one of them has the sense to think,
" Hang on. If millions of us are getting these great results and going to university, then WHO'S going to do all the work??"

Answer - millions of students when they realise (eventually) that the number of jobs they're after is extremely limited.

I remember watching it last year and there was a 'listening' question and one of the songs was 'Bankrobber' by The Clash. And there they sat - eight of them with what-day-is-it? looks on their faces. And some of them were (nearly) my age!!

Meanwhile the savvy (wised up) kids are leaving school, becoming plumbers, bricklayers, electricians, scaffolders, car mechanics etc and RIPPING OFF the student twats when they become adults left, right and centre.
" So you want us to build a garden wall?"
" Mmmm, yes, just along here."
" Okay *strokes chin*, it'll be two or three grand"
" Erm..okay..can you start tomorrow?"

Pishing my pants at these clueless twats.

McCann. Hasn't sat behind a desk since 1975. And loving it.

Oh, it's me not telling the story right. The question was which band had a 1985 album...

Apologies. You should hear tge way I tell a joke!
Actually, no...

Did you leave school in 1975 Patrick ? How come you never got into the burgeoning Punk scene that emerged a year or so later?

You would have loved it....... ***walks away whistling innocently*****

Good Point McCann.. the manual skills shortage succinctly highlighted by your post.. Can we all come and work for you.. You'd pish your pants every day at my controversial subject lines over lunch!

I'd just take the laundry bill off your wages, Ruff. It would end up costing you money to work for me.

Or I could bring my record collection to work!! But then, I'd have to watch you enviously looking through it saying stuff like 'damn, wish i had that one' and 'yep, that ruffian he knows his onions!'!

Can't see me uttering those phrases as I peruse your vast collection of heavy metal stuff, Ruff.
