I actually meant which town was the video filmed in?

But the thread the question has taken is just as, if not more, interesting.

Re: I actually meant which town was the video filmed in?

the video was filmed in Southend On Sea in Essex.
I grew up there and all the things shown are still there except the record store. The people working in the shop were infact, the shop workers.

I've always thought the song was about Morecambe. As I'm currntly living in Lancaster and have friends that live in that godforsaken hole, I'm sure it couldn't be about any other place... Especially as it was a popular holiday destination in the 60's and Moz would probably have gone there as a kid. I also heard that he has a friend that still lives in Heysham, which adjoins the town, but as ever, thats just a rumour... Morecambe really is worth a visit though, if only for the car crash value and having your picture taken next to the statue of Eric Morecambe.

No, it is definitely Blackpool, I had an epiphany when I was there.

Linder Sterling and Michael Bracewell did a small coffee-table book about Heysham and Morecambe. P'raps you are alluding to them?

Should have been, however they had big ideas!

Paying for it now though.

Not quite well enough...the interest must be staggering.

Oh indeed! I was a permanent fixture at the periphery of the dance floor at the Cleethorpes all nighters back in 1986. How they let a gauche 17 year old entry I do not know, but I managed to slip in somehow.

its "Southend on sea" in Essex the local town council were up in arms when the video came out proclaiming the "forgetting to bomb it" as an outrage, and prompted some articles in the national gutter press at the time, any excuse will do where Morrissey is concerned, a bit of a storm in a greased tea cup really,it was a big bank holiday destination for Eastenders in its day a hot bed of teddy boy activity
right through until the 80s during which time it was already falling to pieces.
