What's the deal with Morrissey
having a huge Mexican, sorry, I mean Hispanic/American
fanbase? How did that all happen? It's like almost
every LA fan is Hispanic now. Talk about 2 worlds colliding.
I wonder how Morrissey felt about this as it was starting
to happen?

morrissey created a link between different cultures.

I could never, never, never, go back home again

You would think that someone whose most often been different in life, and somewhat an outcast heritage-wise (Irish family and roots, living in northern England) wouldn't have issues with being liked by the minority culture of the US society...he might even be honored by it.

I think that he is. = )

Morrissey for sure knows what is the real meaning of "prejudice", and i'm not surprised that a minority culture sees him as a kind of spokesman. Of course he is honored, and i guess he had lots of oportunities to show that.

when you "somehow" are different, and you feel the pain of being different, you start to see the world in another context. the fingers pointing on you, the bad memories, everything makes you look back, and realize that you are part of this "minority"...

Ironically, since Morrissey left Manchester there has been a steady growth of Spanish people living there. In fact, walking aroung the city centre today, it seems that almost every other person is Spanish.
Perhaps some sort of karmic force is at work in the universe - Morrissey leaves Manchester only to be replaced by thousands of Spanish immigrants.
At least when Morrissey comes back he'll feel at home ( sort of ).
