Boy, I don't know what you find so special about that NIN album. I couldn't even listen to it all the way through one time, it was so dull. I'll take even that new Filter album with the ex-NIN guy over it any day.

As for me, I don't know what my favorite is, but right now I'm listening to the Magnolia soundtrack, Fiona Apple, Air Cuba, The Chemical Brothers, The Artist's new one, Moby, and Air. Thse aren't necesarily my faves of the year, though. Well, OK, The Chemical Brothers' album was probably my favorite. As for Beck, I bought his new one and it's got some fun party tunes on it, but it really isn't anywhere near as good as his last one. To me it just sounds like Beck doing a Prince imitation. I like Prince/The Artist a lot, so that's not a bad thing, but it's not until the last few tracks of the album that it starts to not sound like a cheap imitation of others.

And if anyone laughs at me about Fiona Apple, I don't care, because I like every track on her new one.

I also recommend buying the Matador 10th aniversary 3-CD set because it's priced real cheap and it has more good songs than most complilations. I especially like Cat Power's cover of "Sea of Love."

My favorite movies of 1999 are:
1. The Iron Giant
2. Being John Malkovich
3. Election
4. The Talented Mr. Ripley
5. Boys Don't Cry
6. Run Lola Run
7. Three Kings
8. The Dreamlife of Angels
9. South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut
10. Mansfield Park

Speaking of the Artist's new album, in the liner notes he goes to bat for animal rights.

Hnia says:
yes, i bought the fragile too, thinking that at least there would be 8-10 good tracks out of 20 or more, but there ain't. There are moments of beautiful, grace and power, but not many.

hnia says: I still need to buy that chemical brothers and play by moby..

hnia says: Prince is wonderful, i must catch up with him..

i saw her play with hooverphonic about two years ago, and she was horrible. i think she does have the talent/skill/whatever, but she peaked too young or something. i haven't heard that pawn album yet... so i couldn't tell you my views on it. To me will always be in the shadow of tori amos/kate bush, perhaps she will find her own terrain. have you heard Sky Motel by Kristin Hersh, the album came out last year.. i love it..

Oh, now you're talking cat power can do no wrong..

I really liked the talented mr. ripley, the straight story, magnolia, election and american beauty. Still waiting for boys don't cry here.

I bought the last Chemical Brothers cd, but it's worse than Dig Your Own Hole in my opinion.

I bought Moby today by coincidence - a good album.

And released in 1999 I bought a cd from a pop rock brazilian band called Charlie Brown Jr.

I really don't know if I bought other cds released in 1999... but I bought some excellent cds of blues and from Black Sabbath.

Anyway, 1998 is the year of Mezzanine from Massive Attack, one of the 20 better albuns of all time without a doubt...

Re: 1999: Best of(and a Beck Question)

My favorites of the year are:
Antartica-81:03-I plugged this as one of the best of the decade.
If you were into New Order, Depece Mode and such, but now prefer
more modern electronica, this is an amazing bridge between the two. Has a bit of the shoegazer sound going also. And it's a double CD!
Low-Secret Name-I think ALL Morrissey fans should check this band out.
Their music is just beautiful; haunting, heartbreaking and spiritual. One of my favorite bands of all time.
Now a Beck question(because he was mentioned yet again):
This has been on my mind for some time. What is the connection between
Morrissey and Beck? First Moz is wearing a Beck T-Shirt in his video.
Then Beck uses a very My Love Life clip in his New Pollution Video.
Then Johnny Marr (Maybe it's a Smiths connection??) plays on Becks album. Then Morrissey co-headlines a festival with him. Do they have a
relationship? A mutual fondness/respect? Is this all mere coincidence?
God, I'm really not so deperate, but I would like to know. Thanks.

Recently Morrissey said Beck is "incredible untrue".

I agree with Morrissey. Odelay has no soul, even having some good songs in it.

IMO, Prince/The Artist is one of the great entertainers of all time. His concerts are so incredible.

I like Hersh but I haven't kept up with her in recent years. Used to be really into Throwing Muses.

Don't write Fiona off until you hear her new album. It's much better than her debut. I'm not saying it's gonna change your life or anything, but it has good lyrics and good music and is a strong pop album from first track to last.
