Other Top Notch Lyricists

They should have kept the sax solo

This morning I finally started listening to the new Divine Comedy album 'Absent Friends', stand outs so far are 'The Happy Goth', and 'Our Mutual Friend'. A definate return to form after the last album.

Re: The Wake

I've got a tape somewhere of a John Peel show where he played a Wake song called "Something for the Longing". He said, "bit of a weirdy" after it. I remember that much.

Sarah Records: I liked The Fieldmice and Heavenly, but the rest were too wishy washy and I wanted to slap them. The early bands at least - the label expanded a bit towards the end.

In the early days The Manics were desperate to get signed to any label, and as a result they send Matt some demo tapes. He turned them down. He also turned down the Pale Saints. I've got a interview with Claire on video and she does wear lots of bangles, so you must have been right at home with them. I never really liked EAWS that much. Blueboy were fantastic. Vastly underated and over shadowed by The FM and Heavenly.

I've got all the singles from 70-100 inclusive, plus most of the albums. Bands near the end like Secret Shine, Boyracer and Aberdeen were good. Nice three minute pop songs. You should check out The Wake if you come across a cheap cd of theirs. I think they would quite appeal to you.

That song I mentioned is actually by The Orchids, not the Wake. And it was Sarah 029. Not long after the Fieldmice's "Autumn Store" EPs.
