Muy excellente!
But sad to hear Dee Dee (shortly before his own death) talking about how Joey "never got anything" out of being a Ramone, because he was sick and miserable the whole time. He even had a bad case of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder! Except I don't believe he got nothing out of it. He may not have enjoyed the fringe benefits of being in a band that Dee Dee indulged in, but certainly he found some refuge from his miseries on stage. He would've been far worse off without the Ramones.
Also sad to hear Johnny (shortly before HIS death as well) talking about why he never bothered to visit Joey on his death bed. I knew there were lots of conflicts within the band, but damn, at some point you gotta put grudges aside when your partner is about to die.....
Joey thought he was gonna live though. Four days before he died he was saying he didn't want some tube hooked up to his throat because it might screw up his singing voice.
I played his song about being in the hospital from his great solo album right after.
Joey was a good guy.
Someone in the documentary touches on one of the things I find most appealing about the Ramones, that Joey was a hopeless romantic.
I was surprised to learn that "The KKK Took My Baby Away" is about Johnny stealing Joey's girlfriend. She became Johnny's wife. I guess Joey called Johnny the "KKK" because Johnny was a Republican. hahaha
Also disturbing to see Richie Ramone looking like an accountant! But he was never a real Ramone anyway.
This is a real good documentary, going threough the entire story of the best band that has ever existed. It definitely was some strange beckoning finger of fate that made these geeky losers come together to create the perfect rock and roll band.
