BRIAN CLOUGH R.I.P

He would have kicked their stuffy arses at the FA wouldnt he if he had got the job in his prime? (late seventies/early eighties)

Which is why he never got the England job of course.

> God bless Cloughy.

Yes totally agree, a man who called "a spade a spade" and sod the consequences. A man after my own heart!
He did it "His Way"

A true one off. An individual in a world of idiots and yes men. People said he had a big mouth, like that's some kind of bad quality. He spoke his mind and God bless him for it.

Did he share out his backhanders then?

> Did he share out his backhanders then?

He shared his backhanders with several Forest fans after that match against QPR all those years ago.

The Sun offered one of those Forest fans a load of money to slag Cloughie off in an article, and he told them to get well and truly f***ed.

We're a loyal bunch in Nottingham y'know

I saw him earlier in the year in this cafe. He came walking in with this homeless girl and bought her a cuppa tea. They were nattering about her dog, and he had some dog biscuits in his bag of shopping, he pulled one out of the bag and started dunking it in his tea, it was quite surreal. A great charachter indeed.

Great football manager started of at Hartlepool United at the age of 26. RIP our thoughts are with your family. We will never forget you !!

Poolie till i die.

He was also a fantastic footballer in his time, according to my Dad that is, who is a little older than myself . Cloughie never braggeed about his playing career, which says a lot for the man, when he was obviously a gifted player.

The alcohol has a lot to answer for though, don't you think. I mean look at Georgie Best, probably the best player in the history of football, such natural talent...what a waste...what a waste.....sorry turning into Ian Dury now!
(Now he was talented also)

George Best - European Footballer of the year. European Cup Winner. Northern Irish and hence never able to achieve International greatness, but I wouldn't say a waste. He achieved all a Northern Irish lad could achieve really.

Re: another alcoholic socialist bites the grass!

He will never be up their among the true greats, he made himself into a myth by the way he acted but noone will be bothered in a hundred years when it comes to Clough or Moz for that matter.
It's too easy being socialist but you don't see them share what's left when all bills are paid at the end of the month
f***ing hypocrits > God bless Cloughy.

"He will never be up there among the true greats"

Who else could have achieved what he did at a club like Forest in such a short space of time ? The achievements of Man Utd, Liverpool etc pale into insignificance in comparison, Forest weren't even in the top division when he took over.

Easily the best manager there has ever been.

I agree. Back to back European Champions in the late 70s. Won the league with Forest and Derby County - he achieved greatness with average players, made them feel 100 foot high - and the reverse if needs be! He stood up in the early 70s and spoke out against Leeds Utd who were practically unbeatable at the time and said they were crap. The obvious reply was 'well you do better Cloughie' and he did with lesser quality players. His legacy lives on his players he nourished like Martin O Neill who also illustrated that ability to make medicore individual players play beyond their talents as a team.

The best form of defence is attack----well sometimes anyway.

I agree, but with Peter Taylor as his assistant, the stlye of play was definitely based on defence, especially after buying Peter Shilton the best goalie at that time...Not very entertaing maybe, yet look what happened when Greece played the same way this summer at Euro 2004.

Re: Cloughie invented the kick and run tactics.....

....and created the style of play that once made the english game a very dull affair. He was known for rather hating than loving fellow pros and you in the moz fan cloughie campaign will find you're having your work cut out for you.
Let us drop this as the man is dead and gone just adding to the long list of death by drinking too much. In 1993 when he quit the game he looked sick in a way that hurt and he paid a high price for not quitting in time.
