Re: The Extras last night
I think it was a pretty average finale, but still better than most of the rubbish that gets on TV. The scene with Clive Owen was the funniest part. It was just nice to see it end with a bit of hope for Andy and Maggie. I wonder what Ricky Gervais and Stephen...
Good point. When I said at their peak, I mean it was the band at arguably their most polished, professional peak. Morrissey has always stated that this was the very best album they made. I don't think it's a classic Smiths number, but it's so well put together. Cheers.
What do our American friends think of the "and if the U.S.A. doesn't bomb you" line? I read on another site that one particular fan hated the line and thought it was Moz's single worst line ever written. Opinions, please.
This is the first song by The Smiths that I ever heard. A friend of mine taped the legendary John Peel session way back in 1983, and this is the track that stood out. We all know that it's 'A taste of honey' in a song. It still gets me even when I hear it today. While it's not considered a...
I remember it well. A bespectacled man wearing a blouse, lots of beads and waving gladioli all over the place. Throw in lyrics that had to be analysed, a truly addictive bass line and brilliant guitars and you have a classic piece of pop music that still stands up today. This was the true...
"Oh the alcoholic afternoons
when we sat in your room
it meant more to me than any living thing on earth"
I love this song, it was testimony to the strength of their early material. A song this great was a b-side! One day, I really hope Moz and Marr reunite to recreate genius like this...
"No it's just more lock-jawed pop stars thicker than pig shit
nothing to convey."
It says it all about today's music industry, doesn't it. This is Morrissey at his pissed-off best. Great stuff and a 9 from me.
People, people, come to your senses. The best opener on the best Smiths album. A frantic and wild song that caused probably more controversy than any other in their short time together. It's energy is just irresistible. It just has to be a 10. I'm on my way round to your houses with an...
The drum solo is just there to extend the playing time of the album that comes in at about 33 minutes. Once the song actually starts, I have to admit that I like it. "Sad to say how once I was in love with you." A 7 from me.
What a way to gain revenge on a terrible school that you despised! Release a truly great opening song on a truly great album that goes to number 1 in the charts. This is a Smiths classic, and as someone mentioned earlier, Johnny was the tender age of 19 when he wrote the fantastic guitar...
