Smiths Playlist for introducing them to a non-fan friend?

Hi, I have a friend who's not into the smiths, and I've thought about making a cd for him as a formal introduction. He's heard them in the past, but never seemed interested... I doubt he's heard an entire song. So I'm wondering, what would you fill a cd with, to make a mix of songs for a total non fan?

He likes the beatles, syd barrett pink floyd, tom waits, and 60's garage.

i always start smiths mixes with hand in glove and end with asleep.

"Asleep" is definitely a great one to include, especially if the recipient of said mix is somewhat melodramatic... Someone who likes Syd Barrett Pink Floyd and Tom Waits will be unable to resist that song, I think.

"This Charming Man"
"These Things Take Time"
"Bigmouth Strikes Again"
"There is a Light That Never Goes Out"
"Miserable Lie"
"Vicar in a Tutu"

If he's heard them in the past and isn't keen, he probably doesn't like the sound of Morrissey's singing voice, which is, well, fair enough! Doesn't matter what songs you give him to listen to. Maurice, were you Houdini?

I would make a cd with my favourite but also the most famous songs.
Definitely:
How soon is now
There is a light that never goes out
this charming man
I know it's over
panic
heaven knows I am miserable know
....and probably I would throw in
nowhere fast
girlfriend in a come
vicar in a tutu
still ill
reel around the fountain
death of a disco dancer

Mostly stick to the famous and funny songs :)

Maurice, were you Houdini?

Alas, no, but an understandable question!
I do like to cut and paste the Houdini poll into threads which discuss the best/worst songs, coz I think it provides a fascinating insight.
Don't know who Houdini is. One of the regulars, perhaps.
Don't think he's ever posted as Houdini on any other threads.
What a strange thing the internet is!

-This Charming Man
-Bigmouth
-Still ill
-Miserable lie
-heaven knows I'm miserable now
-the queen is dead
-nowhere fast
-How soon is now?
-ask
-Headmaster ritual

-Cemetery gates
-I don't owe you anything
-Handsome Devil

What "Best Of" lists have featured the Smiths?

I'm trying to introduce the smiths to a friend of mine, and I was wondering, what are the different "Best Of" lists that have featured the Smiths prominently? Like NME, Uncut, best album, best band, and where they ranked.

I know these don't really mean anything, but I'm on the defensive.

I think the best way to go is with the Singles tracklisting.

'The Death Of A Disco Dancer' on repeat...sorts the wheat from the chaf.

I can attest to that. One of my anti-Morrissey friend loved it, until she found out it was Morrissey singing. :p

The point of the matter is she liked it! :D
