ringleader is very good but not great - as with other albums the reality is sinking in

basically it's a very good album with 6 or 7 very very good songs, of which maybe one or two are great.

I am starting to find parts of it a bit flabby though. "youngest" is a dirge. No way around that.

and Pigsty is nice but it's not exactly "I Know It's Over."

It sounds too much like he's trying to sound like a mediocre radiohead towards the end with that ok computer-style musicianship straight out of "exit music."

so far, 7/10. It may shoot up again or it may sink. Just keeping you posted!

the radiohead reference

If Morrissey wants to sound like radiohead, he needs to employ musicians who can pull it off, or go all the way. Just doing another rock song with a few radiohead touches is impressing nobody.

He needs to be more audacious, but I doubt he will be. I'm pretty much giving up on morrissey doing anything to compare with "Teachers" or "maudlin Street" again.

must be a slow day at work again broken.
last week you said you hated it.
the week before you loved it.
what's it gonna be next week?

Re: yawn

no, a clone said he hated it posting from another server.

I said I loved it (I do) but youngest was the most loved was a dirge.

You put it in your top 10 favourite albums ever, didn't you?

Re: yawn

Yes, along with the usual Radiohead stuff. Why not just go to a Radiohead site?

Re: yawn

as i said at the time, i'd only heard it once! I said I love it right now but it will probably fall, or rise!

it's normal to love an album by an artist you love after one listen, isn't it?

It doesn't mean it will be in my top 10 forever.

Re: yawn

why do you hate radiohead? Morrissey and the Smiths never put out a record to rival the bends or ok computer. I love Morrissey mroe, but his albums are usually lacking in consistency and quality.

Sorry, it's just a fact. Which is one reason why I always mix the songs up into compilations when I listen to Morrissey.

Re: yawn

I don't hate Radiohead. I just don't think they're that good. OK Computer is easily the most overated album I've ever heard. I prefer The Bends. But you obviously LOVE Radiohead as you talk about them so much. So why not talk about Radiohead at a Radiohead message board? Just really don't think Morrissey has ever listened to Radiohead. It never comes across in his music that he's influenced by them.

Re: yawn

the ending of pigsty is stolen directly from "exit music" - there's your evidence. The sound they use is so similar it could almost be a sample.

OK Computer is not overrated in the slightest. It's one of only 3 or 4 albums during the 1990s I've heard that I'd describe as great.

My criticisms of ROTT don't mean I don't like, or even love, the album. I am almost always disappointed by albums and find parts of them dull and uninteresting. I could say I love perhaps 5 or 6 albums in total, which is why making my top 10 wasn't easy.

I love Morrissey, and I think his new album is excellent. But I also think he's reached a cul-de-sac and needs to hire some new, genuinely imaginative musicians because ROTT is really the final chapter in this indie-rock sound. He's done it to death now. As good as it is, it's time to move on. Just as Blur said in 1995 "anyone who's still brit pop in 1 year from now is f***ed." He was right, only Oasis weren't listening.

If Morrissey is still indie rock in 2007, he will be completely surplus to requirements. It's time for something new.

Re: yawn

Fair enough. My opinion is that OK Computer is still a very overated record. Glad you like it, though.

and there you have two of the most hip-to-like and over-rated recordings of all time.

And are you saying radiohead are a unique band? and never stole anything.

You must be some kind of journalist or have ambitions to be in the 'industry'
