Re: They haven't have they?
It appears they bloody well have ... the NME are a right bunch of fools. It's like when Q allowed OK Computer to be voted best album of all time in the year it was released.
You're right ... everything you said. I especially liked your porn / lubricant analogy ... I'm going to try and slip that one in to conversation in the near future.
There's no way it can be declared one of the best albums ever. Such polls need a criteria set to allow at least 5 (possibly even 10) years before a record can be eligible.
I don't want a bunch of 14 - 16 year olds telling me that a band from my city (younger than me, depressingly enough) are one of the greatest of all time. I know how impressionable i was at that age, and you shouldn't be allowed to influence such polls.
The Arctic's are bloody good, I'll give em that, but this time last year only a handful of people knew who they were. I doubt the band will agree with all this. And look what happened to NME darlings The Others, where the hell are they now?
I read an article (in Word i think it was) saying that if you believed all the 5 star reviews, hype and awards given out, then we must be living in one of the greatest ages in entertainment since entertainment began.
Bring back sensible journalism ... oh hang on, isn't that an oxymoron?
