But you got me curious. On the two occasions you met with Moz at his mum's house, how did you manage that? Did you happen to hear he was there and stop by? Or was it some sort of prearranged meeting because you knew the right people who set it up? Or something else?

Well that would be telling!!

Let's put it this way. Like many fans, I thought myself unique coming from where Moz did and having unnervingly similar experiences. Once I'd read the chapters on Moz's childhood and teen years in the severed alliance I decided that I'd ascended from being a fan and actually had something useful to say to the chap. I'm sure everyone feels like that. There are George Michael fans that hear him sing 'Ooooh baby, you drive me crazy' and they'll say 'Oh George just understands me' and you think 'riiiight'. Moz described the Smiths as putting his diary to music. He was also putting mine to music with special attention to specifics. Again, I'm sure many of us feel that way.

Having so much in common though led me to want to speak with him not because he was Moz, but because I felt there was basis for a genuinely valuable conversation for both sides. As a result, being from Manchester, people knew people who put me in touch with people and that led to an address and a time.

True story you'll never believe. I was once in a meeting with the chairman of the board at my company. Calls were being allowed to be put through and I recieved a call and the receptionist, not having a clue about the significance, said, 'I have a call for you from a Linder Sterling'. I took the call and Linder adivsed me that Moz was at Manchester Airport and she gave me the gate and the time of his flight and said that if I could be there in 45 mins, he'd have some time.

Well talk about excruciating. Manchester airport is exactly 45 mins from my office in good traffic and there was absolutely no way in which I could get there in time. That sucked. I'm sure some reading this would have just gone, but I wasn't THAT desperate to run out on my livelihood.

So to finally answer the question, it was a case of knowing people, earning trust and I hope, being liked that led to the opportunities I had. I lay no claim to any ongoing friensdship with the man nor did I ever expect to but due to certain contacts still being in contact, I have a rough idea of what's going on from time to time.

I can honestly say I never thought about it.

I always assumed it was just Linder being kind and Moz knew nothing about it. Perhaps he did and that's why he didn't come to my wedding =)

You're welcome and you're right, I am a very lucky man for many reasons...that have nothing to do with Moz =)

It's me on the left of the screen and Moz, via the big screens at the gig, in the main part - I know I cheated and it doesn't quite compare to earlier posts on this thread but still, it's me and it's him so it's us on the same pic.

BTW - yes the other one is slightly better, I'll see if I can get my hands on it.
