Please!!! Not again!!!

Please, please, please, not THIS old story again...
Would you be so kind and do me (and many other people) a favour? Do not argue about this topic EVERY week - I´m quite sure everything is said at least 146 times. The content of this topic will be the same, even if we discuss it for the 147th time.
Chairs.

tell YOUR Morrissey/Smiffs story

The reason he sings this is because he's quoting directly from a racist chant, usually associated with the NF. I doubt it represents his personal opinion - writing a song about racists and racism doesn't make one a racist.¿ he can be a real @#!!! at times

Misconstrued?

National Front Disco... Bengali in Platforms... Asian Rut...
Could there be a theme developing there?

Re: Misconstrued?

Yes, a commentary on British culture at the fag-end of the twentieth century.¿ National Front Disco... Bengali in Platforms... Asian Rut...¿ Could there be a theme developing there?

What comes before those lines? You know, like, context?

"Bengali in Platforms" is a song about assimilation. It mocks the Bengali for trying to be too British.

"Asian Rut" is a song about an "Asian boy" who tries to avenge the racist murder of his friend. The song is a mock opera, and the Asian boy is its tragic hero. The song also contains an explicit condemnation of racist gang violence - "Oh, English boys, it must be wrong, three against one."

Anyone who is unable to comprehend these songs is either monumentally stupid or intentionally malicious.

It's weird that a vegetarian, socialist, flower-flinging guy who wanted to murder Maggie Thatcher gets accused of racism. Seems inconsistent. Also weird that a racist would have so many non-white, non-anglo fans. And extremely anti-racist fans like me.

Theory - remember in the early Smiths days when Moz was called a child molester or something? Then in his early solo career these racist things. Maybe Moz feels the need to stir up controversy or offend people when he doesn't feel secure. Maybe the 'racist' thing lasted longer than the child molester thing because his solo career had a rockier start than the Smiths did. I don't want to make excuses for him, though.¿ "england for the english! england for the english!"¿ ...he sings...¿ is it so strange that he is being accused to be a racist?¿ I just wonder...
