The Lazarus Effect
For all of you who remember "Flatliners" this is more or less an updated modern version with some over dramatic horror added to it. Had they chosen to avoid the film spinning out of control towards the end this could have been amazing. I love how they stick to science and facts as I recently happened to read about some of the things mentioned in this film.
The idea behind this must of course come from the cryo industry projects and the idea of people believing one day science will have become so advanced they can wake the dead and cure all diseases and erase death. The film sends a message that all type of ideas and research that we may now discard might become facts and science in the future as most of the big discoveries we have seen over the years have come from mistakes and ideas and all kinds of weird situations and coincidences.
There is the usual debate between sceptics and believers in this film and even catholicism is thrown into it. I guess the message is that to be able to create something new we need to keep an open mind and avoid falling into the trap of believing we have now come as far as we can reach which you sometimes can blame many scientists for as they prefer to defend their views and knowledge rather than open doors to new discoveries and ideas.
I hope this is the last film I see where the eyes of a character are turned dark as coal.
