The song "Sonny Boy" is credited in the notes for "The Hand That Rocks The Cradle". It is minimal in the song but was noted.
"Climb up on my knee, sonny boy
Although you're only three, sonny boy "
the original song lyrics:
"Climb upon my knee Sonny Boy
Though you’re only three, Sonny Boy
You’ve no way of knowing
There’s no way of showing
What you mean a me Sonny Boy
When there are grey skies, I don't mind the grey skies.
You make them blue, Sonny Boy.
Friends may forsake me, let ‘em all forsake me.
I still have you, Sonny Boy
You're sent from heaven and I know your worth.
You made a heaven, for me here on the earth.
When I'm old and grey dear, promise you won't stray, dear
For I love you, Sonny Boy.
When there are grey skies I don't ,I don’t mind grey skies.
You make ‘em blue, Sonny Boy.
Friends, friend may forsake me, let ‘em, let ‘em all forsake me.
I still have you, Sonny Boy
You're sent from heaven and I know your worth.
You’ve made a heaven for me here on the earth.
And the angels grew lonely
Took you because they were lonely
Now I’m a lonely too, Sonny Boy"
As a side not, I still don't understand the thinking from some people that the song "The Hand That Rocks The Cradle" is a song about child abuse. To me it is directly the opposite. To me it is a song of comforting...that the child should have no worries as long as The Hand That Rocks The Cradle is mine (dad's).
And I think this is one of Mogsy's best ever lyrical compositions.
