Morrissey's Greatest Hits Album entered the UK Album Chart at No. 5 with other new entries including Michael Jackson's "Thriller 25" entering at No.3 and One Night Only's "Started A Fire" entering at No. 10.
This thread (new Word Magazine; perhaps most vicious attack ever on Moz (in Greatest Hits review)) started by Maurice E. in the forums is all about David Quantick's 'review' of the Greatest Hits in the current edition of WORD magazine. He takes the opporunity to really have a go at Morrissey and his band. Hardly surprising for a man who called Morrissey a "vile scumbag" on national radio. Scans of the article can be found here.
One music industry observer, Rob Fitzpatrick, associate editor of Word Magazine based in Islington, said people there thought the most likely acts included Radiohead, The White Stripes and Morrissey, who earlier this month cancelled three nights of a six-night residency at Camden's Roundhouse venue.
Mr Fitzpatrick said: "I can sort of imagine someone like Morrissey doing 10 nights at a place like that. It is not a sort of heritage venue, like the Royal Albert Hall, and it is not a big money-spinner like the O2, which is built to get as many people in as possible in a small space.
I thought it would reach only #40 oder 50. A little surprise, because the single has'nt got a b-side. It's a wonderful placement at german charts for that Morrissey single.
Producer Jerry Finn and I have had a long fun filled history together in Punk Pop heaven with group's like Blink 182 and found ourselves both being invited back for our second Morrissey album. I think fans will be pleasantly surprised by this new solo offering. It was all tracked live which added a great punk, garage, DIY urgency to the tracks. I am so used to recording keyboards in the more traditional overdub scenario that being asked to invent parts "on the fly" and track with the band while Morrissey sang live was a very refreshing and challenging experience.
