The Evening Standard (London) yesterday mentioned that artistic director Danny Boyle (director of Slumdog Millionaire) had suggested that music of The Smiths might be used at the opening of the Olympics one year from now.
"Beijing's four-hour extravaganza is thought to have cost £70million. Boyle, who has a reputation for scoring box office hits on shoestring budgets, has hinted that Britain's musical past could be central to the 2012 opening, saying this year: "Think about who we've produced - the likes of David Bowie, Jimmy Page, The Smiths, Stone Roses and New Order... you would imagine it would be a big part of the ceremony.""
Danny Boyle: Olympic opening will go back to basics - The Evening Standard
