The Ruts - No Moz

Johnny's done the business on this post though.. this one could run and run in the absence of Morrissey doing anything in the real world!

D'ya know anyone that wants to come round and listen to 'I'm Stranded' by the Saints on 7"?

Has the cookie club moved, I wasn't aware of that, I think the last time I went out round town at night was when Moz played at Rock City, has it been that long.

I'm not really into football, but my mum who works for Rushcliffe Borough Council is currently helping out one of your former players, Micheal Johnson. He lives out on the outskirts of Nottingham somewhere, and his neighbours have been complaining about his dog making too much noise, but its just a load of twatty Tories moaning about nothing.

YES PLEASE!!!

Never let it be said that I don't take men up on their offers of inspecting and admiring their 7 inches...

Excuse MEEEEEEEEEE, Bluebles. That should be 'ex-punk'. Singular.
Though you're correct with the plural for the 'plastic' bit.

A classic, Ruff. There were no arguments among my raggle taggle bunch of urban punks about that the week it was released.
Did you get it then too, mate?

Re: Tom Robinson Band

I'm not just saying this Ruff, but I have absolutely NO IDEA what an mpg is. Is it like a cassette? But ta anyway.

Well I'm not surprised you remember the lyrics Ruff if you listened to it the other day!! Jesus man!
I honestly haven't heard any of them since 79/80, apart from 'martin' which I had on an mpg, sorry - a cassette tape, for a while during the eighties.

Aye. I remember them. Wasn't Kenny Dalglish mentioned in 'Albert Tatlock'? And it was b-side to...Into The Valley? All very vague and boxed-up now for over 20 years. But don't feel sorry for it. It's got loads of company.

I saw mad Adam's squad in Edinburgh early doors. 77 I reckon. I liked them at the time, though I was horrified at the later prince charming nonsense. Well, I was already an old snob by then.

Oh I doubt it. You know what kids are like nowadays.
Now, where was I.....?

Peel Sessions (others)

> Any other Magic you could recommend? Peel sessions I mean for any band..

The Chameleons one (an LP) isn't bad. The first session had several tracks that they didn't record elsewhere.

I've got a couple of Peel Session EPs lying around. I like the first Echo and the Bunnymen one because they've still got the drum machine. I think. I got it for £2 from a bargain bucket in Woolworths in Leamington Spa one day. Quite why it was there I don't know.

Re: Peel Sessions (others)

I have the Inspirals one & indeed it is grrreat. The only other one I have is an early "Mighty Wah!" (SFPS035) one which is essential for its 'Basement Blues; Story of the Blues' version.

I'd get the 'Culture' (SFPS024) one too if ever I saw it for sale 'cos I like my reggae.

All of the Inspiral Carpets BBC sessions have recently been released on a special radio sessions CD, I highly recommend it. Where we only had the 4 track peel sessions (Out Of Time, Direcing Traffic, Keep The Circle Around, Gimme Shelter) now all 20 or so tracks that they put down for the BBC at various points in their career are available.

Billy Bragg peel sessions includes that old Smiths gem 'Jeane', but there is plenty more they will appeal to Morrissey fans on here. This is hard to find nowadays though.

Gang Of Fours peel sessions of songs which would feature on the legendary 'Entertainment' LP are awesome, but avoid later material, they lost it in a big way.

Microdisney (Rough Trade stablemates with The Smiths) their peel sessions collects a range of hilarously funny, witty, and thought provoking songs.

The Only Ones peel sessions, great musicianship on this album, and anyone who is familiar with the genius lyrics of Peter Perrett will second recommend this band.

The Specials peel sessions - fantastic alternative versions of Concrete Jungle, Gangsters, and a much better rendition of Stereotype.

Magazine - Their peel sessions can be found on the 'Maybe Its Right To Be Nervous Now' box set priced approx £15 includes rare B Sides and other hard to find gems. And I'm sure I don't need to stress the influence they had on Moz.

Also look out for The Undertones, The Buzzcocks and as we've said The Ruts peel sessions.

Some great stuff listed here, but unfortunetly most of these albums have been deleated so its one for the second hand shops and specialist mail order places on the net.

Re: Also Wire peel sessions, the band Blur/Elastica luv to rip off.

Re: Also Wire peel sessions

Yeah, I was going to mention the Wire one in my message, but as I don't have it I didn't think I should. It's an album I've often thought about acquiring but never have. Yet. I've got the Inspirals EP on CD. It's ok, but I thought at the time that it was rush-released to cash in on their popularity.

Oh, the Syd Barrett session EP too, because it has an exclusive track on it.

I can't recall when I got it.. but it was a little (like within a year or two) retrosepctively I'd think.. I can't recall now, I've just had it ages!

Anyway Pat.. I want to invite you somewhere.. for that chat I think we should have.. (I admit I didn't really say much to you at that infamous drunken night in the Halfway house, Camden).. So, we can make amends, On Fri 17 Oct, me and 8 (yes most of the full Ruffian circus, you've met a few already) are going to see Half Man Half Biscuit at the Mean Fiddler.. You'd be welcome to meet for a beer before.. You can meet some hippie/mod/rocker/goth mates and they'll vouch for my musical eccentricities at that punky reggae party time (that Marley track is superb as well)..

Fancy your chances in an amusing punk interchange!? Come along.. bring Johnny and we can go down Wardour St and plant an A Bomb!
