Morrissey's next single

Right then, to get back to Morrissey for a minute (as this board is turning into the 'I'm Mindy boo hoo I'm so misunderstood and I want this to get back to a Moz board even though I keep posting message after message about ME' board), I have a question to pose.

If Moz were going to release one of the new tour songs as his next single, which do you think it should be and why?

- I like you
- The World is Full of Crashing Bores
- Mexico
- Irish blood, English heart
- The first of the gang to die

I'll start the ball rolling by saying mine is Crashing Bores. I just think it's a great song lyric-wise, and also it's very emotional and good to sing along to.

PS Mr Improper my Mum will be over later, about 8pm

I think I've already stated this, but my vote goes for "First of the Gang". I think it's absolutely great.

I also have stated time and again that Moz ought to do a very obvious cover for a single- "Alone Again Naturally", "All the Way", or an Elvis tune, and get a bid going for the chart. Alas, that seems to be furthest from his mind. Still, one can hope.

Re: Morrissey's next single is as imaginary as a nun with a strap-on, but.....

irish blood english heart.

a great one for stuffing it to his detractors.

you show'em morrissey,

shake that queenly rear.

dont you think that would be crass?

oh, the media would torture him.

morrissey wants to show us that his creative juices are still flowing,
with a nice little number of his own.

heeheehee!

i want crashing bores. i just love it, i think it's perfect.

Oh, I suppose so. Still, I'd love to be able to hear Moz on the radio. There's so much bad stuff out there, when John Mayer is the best singer-songwriter out there, we're in trouble.

At least that new Nirvana song is on the radio, and the Chili Peppers, but that's about it. I did hear Bowie's latest single a few times, too.

really?how does it sound?

ive been wondering about bowie lately.
hes got a great pair of lungs.

> really?how does it sound?

The single was called 'Slow Burn' and it got played a few times on one of the cooler Indianapolis stations. It's pretty much a rock song, in the vein of his last few albums, or maybe something out of Tin Machine. He's got Pete Townsend (sp?) of the Who on that song, and he also does a Pixies cover.

It's a decent album. It got a lot of hype, but I think it's just as good as his last couple of records. There are some good tunes on there.

I had started to write Bowie off after "Black Tie..", but he is putting out some decent music again.

And also I'm horribly biased and would buy Bowie singing just about anything.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGGGGGGGGG!

tin machine!
no thanks!

give me ziggy!

i think i'm the only person on earth who doesn't really care for elvis. oh well. i agree with pillow that an elvis cover might be perceived as "selling out" in light of the king's renewed popularity (or his newfound popularity in the younger generations - see lilo and stitch).

i agree with you that the first of the gang to die should be the first single. it's the most catchy. my second choice would be irish blood, english heart, although it might be too british to crack the american market (above and beyond his established fanbase).

i'm picturing a bunch of bewildered americans saying "who's oliver cromwell?" but then, i have very little faith in my people.

No no don't worry Mind - I don't see it either! How overrated is elvis!? Maybe a cover is the way to go though, there are some really good ones he could do, but knowing Moz he'd choose something hideous (remember Golden Lights?)

ugh! golden lights is easily my least favourite smiths song. i listen to it occasionally though - have to be in the right mood (a masochistic one), you see.

a cover song could be cool though. what have you got in mind?

can you see morrissey doing a cover of "china girl"? LOL! (that was random, but all that bowie talk got me thinking. i know they had a bit of a falling out, but it'd be good fun.)

It has to be the First of the Gang to die, for me it's already a classic. Crashing Bores would be No. 2 on my list though.

IRISH BLOOD ENGLISH HEART or cover THE SHIP SONG by NICK CAVE

COME SAIL YOUR SHIPS AROUND ME
AND BURN YOUR BRIDGES DOWN
WE MAKE A LITTLE HISTORY, BABY
EVERY TIME YOU COME AROUND

COME LOOSE YOUR DOGS UPON ME
AND LET YOUR HAIR HANG DOWN
YOUR ARE A LITTLE MYSTERY TO ME
EVERY TIME YOU COME AROUND

WE TALK ABOUT IT ALL NIGHT LONG
WE DEFINE OUR MORAL GROUND
BUT WHEN I CRAWL INTO YOUR ARMS
EVERYTHING COMES TUMBLING DOWN

COME SAIL YOUR SHIPS AROUND ME
AND BURN YOUR BRIDGES DOWN
WE MAKE A LITTLE HISTORY, BABY
EVERY TIME YOU COME AROUND

YOUR FACE HAS FALLEN SAD NOW
FOR YOU KNOW THE TIME IS NIGH
WHEN I MUST REMOVE YOUR WINGS
AND YOU, YOU MUST TRY TO FLY

COME SAIL YOUR SHIPS AROUND ME
AND BURN YOUR BRIDGES DOWN
WE MAKE A LITTLE HISTORY, BABY
EVERY TIME YOU COME AROUND

COME LOOSE YOUR DOGS UPON ME
AND LET YOUR HAIR HANG DOWN
YOU ARE A LITTLE MYSTERY TO ME
EVERY TIME YOU CALL AROUND

Yeah, I guess y'all are right. Moz seems to always come up short on his cover songs. If I had to make a list of my least favorite Moz songs, there'd be 6 or 7 covers there. Even a great song like the Jam's "That's Entertainment" doesn't translate as a Moz song. So knowing Moz, he'd pick something like "Nothing rhymed".

On the other hand, I like Moz's "Moon river" and his cover of the Dolls' "Trash". I also absolutely love the bit of "Marie's the Name" on Rank.
I think Elvis suits Moz, and it wouldn't have to be something too obvious. Elvis has alot of songs to pick from.

Moz doesn't seem to willing to assault the chart though, considering his comments about record companies; and I have to respect that, i suppose. As much as I'd love to see Moz with Radiohead, I guess you have to draw the line somewhere, otherwise, Moz will end up doing duets with Michelle Branch or hanging out with P. Diddy.

So I guess I'll hang up my hopes. I just miss the era from 'November spawned' to 'More you Ignore' where Moz frequented the (US) Modern rock charts. It's all so much nu-metal now.

Ok...is she the one with the hairy back?? Seriously, the name of the next morrissey single should be "all my fans broke mindys fingers and kept her from posting on this messageboard".that would sell a few million copies itself.
