Tues. May 22nd Morrissey's Birthday at The House of Blues, Hollywood California with Sweet and Tender Hooligans

Sweet and Tender Hooligans are performing their annual Morrissey "Unhappy Birthday" show at The House of Blues Sunset Strip (mere footsteps from Morrissey's old place). This is the band's biggest and longest set of the year with special guest musicians, a birthday cake, and as every year, a birthday gift to Morrissey in the form of a donation from the proceeds to The Lange Foundation, a local charity dedicated to placing homeless companion animals.

  • Swallowneck has demanded a marathon peeling session of his juicy oranges in frustration at this news story!

He says he would not waste a drop of his crimson nail varnish on a "karaoke tribute act", so there you have it!

If you don't like me, don't look at me...
  • and I don't know who is worse - the people that go see them, or the actual members of the 'band'?

  • Somebody please kill this band already, put it out of its misery, injured horse-style

    One word, "Original"

You guys are good, you know, write a fucking song and stop living in the past, even somebody else's past, at that!!

I hate you and love you at the same time. But, I won't make the show, this time.

  • I am so there. It MOZ's b-day. What better way to spend the day with fellow MOZ fans and give money to a good charity?? I hope to god that I never have people in my life like those that complain all the time and have nothing but negativity in there hearts, like those who just commented.

  • Oh great. At least Jose didn't put his ugly mug on the flyers again. What a lame-ass act these assholes are. They are as good as you can get for mimicking an established act. But the effort in itself is poor. Sure they throw on a charity show once a year to keep the savage fans from ripping them to shreds on the 364 other days of the year they put themselves to shame.

No matter what they do, they can't touch Morrissey. As pathetic as this band is, they'll never be great enough to rain on Morrissey's parade.

Write an original fucking song you ignorant bastards. You're like the Osco brand of Tequila: People settle for you either when the real thing isn't available or they can't afford it. Plus you leave us with a blistering headache.

    Get off the stage.

  • It's sad that these guys are doing a gig while Morrissey is touring the US. It's even sadder that people are actually paying to see them when they can see the real thing on June 8th.

I don't like cover bands, especially those of artists who are alive and touring!

Why not go karaoke, buy yourself a drink and sing the song better than that guy ever will.

  • So what if these guys can't or don't want to write songs? What if Jose is an awful song writer? Does that mean he should never perform in public because while he may be a talented singer, he doesn't write any of these songs? And every cover anyone has ever done is useless? Moz wastes his breath when he takes a crack at "Cosmic Dancer?" And if you're not earning a writing credit on every song your "original" band craps out, then you're a sham! I guess we may as well piss on anyone who sings in musicals then or the entire art of acting as well since the actors didn't write the script themselves. The whole argument is based on a ridiculous premise. Songwriting and performing don't necessarily have to have any crossover whatsoever.

I might tend to agree that there's something unsettling about a tribute to a band that still tours... but since the Smiths don't seem to be giving us any hope of a reunion...

And I can understand not personally enjoying a tribute band, but calling it "pathetic" is silly. I doubt any Smiths tribute act is doing it for the money and sure as hell not enough to "make a living." If it's for the love of the songs... paying TRIBUTE to them... I don't see the harm at all. Neither do the thousands of folks who come to these tribute shows (and who incidentally are still capable of actually enjoying these songs... rather than loafing around on Moz Solo, turning their bitter old noses up at everyone and everything).

    So bona to vada...
  • I know people like to come here and drink up the "Haterade" and bash the S&TH but there is a great reason why they have been such a fantastic tribute since 1992: They are indeed a GREAT cover band!

Jose sums it up best when he changes the lyric from "You Have Killed Me" to "Maldonado is me/and Morrissey- I'll NEVER Be!"

He knows he is not Moz- and the band knows they are not The Smiths or Boz or Jesse or Alain or Andy or Mike or Gary, etc. - they are just all big fans of the music and very devoted to putting on a great show. This was also a charity event that raised money for The Lange Foundation to help stray animals.

Last night at the L.A. House of Blues they packed the house with a few thousand fellow fans celebrating Morrissey's "UnHappy Birthday" - and it was an awesome experience.

    Thank you for that, S&TH!

    Cheers and VIVA MOZ,

    Jay

  • Great Show put on by the SATH. Jose surprised me with his "humbling" change in lyrics. Great job acknowledging the crowd as well. He recognized the Moz Krew who seemed to be there in full force. I believe this annual celebration will continue for years to come. Viva Morrissey!
