Mikey Farrell might be busy with an ongoing project as per his website?:

"Prior to 2004, I was the musical director/ keyboardist for Grammy winning Epic artist Macy Gray. We had the good fortune to open for David Bowie for 6 weeks at the end of 2003. I'm still collaborating with Macy as a writer and I contributed original material to Macy's February 2007 release, Big, produced by Will.I.Am of the Black Eyed Peas. We also recently recorded original material for ABC's Desperate Housewives soundtrack and tracked the theme song to the Heather Graham sitcom Emilys Reasons Why Not. Occasionally I have the opportunity to play live gigs with Macy as well, although most of my energy since 2004 has been devoted to Morrissey."

  • If it's true that Gary is leaving, then it's a sad day, but people move on.

Aside from his hiatus in the 90s, Gary has been a very cool member of the band since Moz' electrified rockabilly rebirth and has lent a lot of street cred to the lineup until this day. Never one for words, it was funny to hear him speak for the first time in over a decade on a recent bootleg where Moz let the band intro themselves. A poster above mentioned Gary is married with a child on the way??

Mikey really helped bring the renditions of Smiths and Moz-solo classics to their full glory, as well as writing a great closer in At Last I Am Born and a barmy b-side with Sweetie Pie.

Best to them both, especially long timer Gaz.

Was there some disagreable incident that happened in 2004 (last time he was in Boston) that turned him off? The very embodiment of English pop music is now for all intents and purposes, supported by a very middle of the road, American easy-listening band. Look who these guys have played with? Sara McLachlan, Five for Fighting? among others. It was bad enough that Mikey was involved with the crap music of Macy Gray and that no-talent black eyed peas guy.
