Sound of 2005: The Bravery - BBC News

...The haircuts seem to be borrowed from The Smiths circa 1984, while the leather jackets indicate their association with the recent Manhattan rock scene of The Strokes

...Despite comparisons to UK bands ranging from The Smiths to Duran Duran, he insists there is very little early 1980s British influence - even in the haircuts.

"I have to say that I know nothing about The Smiths. I know one song, the one that has the cat noise - that's the only single I know."

  • ..something! not everyone was born next door to morrissey, went to the smiths first gig, and had tea and scones with alan bennett!
so it seems these blokes seem to have made an error, basically because they don't really know that much about the smiths. is that such a big deal?
surely cunts is a bit strong?

  • I didn't think they were that bad - I even went out of my way of hoke through HMV for the 12" single they released a few weeks ago. Dunno why it was a 12" though, and thinking about it, I guess they are kinda synthetic.. still enjoyable though.

    Stop being moz snobs

  • God, you Moz Snobs are a tough crowd! All because he doesn't know the Smiths!! We're not all born to Morrissey's family. Give them a break - but...if they ARE from England, then i guess it *is* kind of sad they don't know one of it's more influential bands. Nonetheless, you guys should get over it - i mean, there was one point in your life, when you had no idea whethere "Morrissey" was a place, a type of food, a band name, or a man. Some can't be so priveledged.

back off the Bravery too - 'Honest Mistake' is a decent song...

You just can't measure up every band that comes along to the Smiths or Moz. It's impossible.

If anything, these guys sound like the Killers...NOT the Smiths, the Cure, or Interpol.

I'm sensing a need for hearing aids for some of you...don't worry, it can be a fashion statement.

breathe deep. calm down. just some friendly advice.

  • THIS IS THE POINT.

How can you possibly respect any artist/artists who are creating music, that don't acknowlege The Smiths and Morrissey are a musical force - virtually unparalled in the last twenty years.

It's like someone in the early eighties - with mop tops - saying, "oh I don't know anything about The Beatles really... though I have heard that one about the 'Blue Suede Shoes'..."

    What a joke.

I shall, from now on, ignore them and hope they go away.
