UK radio stations have already started playing "No one can hold a Candle" quite a lot - they started off describing it as a "double 'A' side" and have quickly moved on to suggesting it's the new single - Ignoring 'Jesus" - frankly, this is a good thing, it sounds Glorious on the radio.

        • they share playlists with 1 and 2, which makes the bulk of the catchment audience - and its also been on XFM - so thats most of the relevent UK public.

I don't have exact viewing figures yet - my nan is still counting them - she is just checking the Manchester area house to house and will get back to me later, before the Bingo.

  • I just went onto James Maker's website for an in depth look. Having been on there before I never noticed anything weird. Well, apparantly James is friends with a pirate, has starred in a film with Ian Dury and is selling a very big flat! Anyone shed some light please?

  • Morrissey's version isn't anywhere near as good as the original - the guitars are metallic and tuneless, the piano is incongruous, formulaic and sounds like an afterthought, and the singing is just completely wrong. He can and often does sing sincerely, so why sing such a beautiful song like this?

ALl in all, a beautiful song just about pulled off, but with a distinct lack of grace.

The best touch is the harmonising but apart from that, the band have done a truly pathetic job on this song.

  • I am shocked at how "similar" both versions are,I would have hoped for a more "original" arrangement from Moz and the lads.... yet, Moz's version is superior IMHO. Sorry to all the nay sayers, but this songs gets me reved up for woek every morning! That goodness for MP3's!!!!!
