MORRISSEY
Manchester Evening News Arena, 22 May 2004 - By Richard Smirke, Playlouder. Excerpt:

This gig could so easily have been an anti-climax... Morrissey’s first hometown concert in twelve years. All 15,000 tickets sold out in 63 minutes. The show that the man himself had been building up as "something special" in the countless press appearances that preceded it. And to top it all off, the bequiffed one’s forty-fifth birthday. Basically, anything short of truly fantastic was always going to result in a massive disappointment for all concerned…

  • Well I flew in from Dublin for the show and Morrissey didn't dissapoint. It was well worth the trip. He's never looked or sounded better. The security staff were extremely helpful too. All in all 10/10 for the "Homecoming" gig!

  • This was splendid - even the support did'nt suck (Franz ferdinand - wow!). Clearly sanctuary had thrown money into the show - the sound, Morrissey's voice, the visuals! And he has really honed the live sound of shoplifters and there is a light. I've seen him many times but this was morrissey at his most comfortable, and i hope he was as happy as he looked .
Did anyone else see the emotion in his face as he sung "i'm not sorry" ??? I thought i was watching Levi stubbs!
