I just learned from the TOTP2 website that they will be showing the Smiths' 1983 performance of "This Charming Man" on Wednesday april 16th. So for anyone who hasn't yet got it taped, here's another chance. The program starts at 6.50 pm on BBC2.

  • That Beatle special was a bit shit wasn't it. TOTP2 should do a Manchester special with Joy Division, The Fall, Buzzcocks, The Smiths and Frank Sidebottom.

    Most of the other specials have been crap i.e. By Jovi, Cher, Bee Gees. Anyhow, off I must go and ponder more important things, such as what am I having for me tea? and will the pub have a lock in tonight?

  • I always wanted to see The Smiths first appearance on TOTPs, or could that be I wanted to see it again (repeat viewing)!

    I always thought I had seen it but after viewing the above I might have caught their second performance on the programme, because I distinctly don't remember Morrissey wearing all those beads twenty years ago - in my mind he was in belted denim jeans with plain shirt minus gladioli, but probably with the hearing aid.

    Oh well glad you signposted this appearance for us here in solo, as this appearance is criminally missing from the Complete Picture compilation - prefer this to the promo video for This Charming Man - Mozzy looks far too angry in that.

    John Brydon (the presenter of TOTP 2 - what happened to the chirpy and effective but not intrusive voiceover of Steve Wright?)is a top wanker - I felt if I met him in the street I'd want to wring his neck forty times. How can a twat like that present a show and have absolutely no appreciation of the Smiths and the impact they had on so many lives - I can't believe philistines like that can get jobs in the BBC.

    Hold on a minute, oh yes I can believe such a recruitment policy exists, uncouth philistines come ten a penny at Broadcasting House.
