Granada TV, the Manchester based Independent TV station covering the North West of England (and makers of Coronation Street) are producing a documentary on The Smiths to be shown in November this year to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the bands first gig at The Ritz.

The producer is Dave Nolan, who made a similar documentary last year, based on his book 'I swear I was there' marking the 25th anniversary of the Sex Pistols first visit to Manchester in 1976 - to an audience of around 30 some of whom went on to become leading artists themselves years later, including Morrissey, Linder, the Buzzcocks, Barney and Hooky (New Order / Joy Division) Mick Hucknall (Simply Red) and Tony Wilson.

The launch this week in Manchester for the book 'Morrissey's Manchester' was filmed by the producer as part of the documentary.

  • Can't you come up with something better than that?
Oh I think I'd be more angry
If your answers weren't so daft!
    Oh you know I could
But do you really think I would?
When you go up to Granadaland on Sundays

Sally told me that you're practically kissing his feet
Oh, but he hasn't got a car
And so your list of names brought you to me
    And a friend in need
    Is a pest indeed
When she uses everybody in the way that you do

You know you're breaking my heart
I can't bear the thought of us being apart
You know you're breaking my heart
I can't bear the thought of us being apart

Maybe I'll see you tomorrow if you could spare me the time
Oh no, of course I didn't mean it
I still keep hoping you'll be changing your mind
    Okay your choice is clear
    But, please, anywhere but here
And stop trying to tell me that you know how I feel

You know you're breaking my heart
I can't bear the thought of us being apart
You know you're breaking my heart
I can't bear the thought of us being apart

  • Hello,

If anyone has any Smiths memorabelia which they believe to be rare and valuable be it footage from a gig, a book, poster or newspaper cutting then why not get in touch with myself at [email protected] and we will do our best to include it in the programme.

  • at the Morrissey's Manchester book launch, not only did I get a very nice signed copy of the aforementioned book I also had a quick chat with the camera person about the show, he told me they are also going to L.A. to get some more footage etc, I asked if I could go along to help out but was politely refused, damn, then I had to go get me bus home.
    love
